Hey everybody, I am new to the group and new to the world of RC. I have inherited an HPI Savage RC Truck body /frame and suspension, spare parts and transmitter. I guess my biggest question at this point, is how can I identify which model of Savage I have?
I have read that the Red coils on the shocks may indicate that it is a RTR however the shocks and coils can be interchanged and the color essentially indicates the stiffness of the shocks...right???
 
My RTR had black springs. THe easiest way is through the TVP, then the radio box, then the hex's and tires.

X's, literally have an X on the side. The old .21/.25 are just shiny silver. Can you post a couple pics?

Good thing about the Savage platform, there have been a few revisions, but most all Savage parts are compatible between models....
Just drive it and if something breaks parts are easy to find.....

I know when I spoke with the local guy at the hobby shop most hardware countersunk/ pan head screws will interchange with the exception of shoulder screws like the ones for the shocks. So does anyone have a specific source they use for these items? Also which resource would you recommend for schematics concerning hardware sizes and types?
I will more than likely purchase the engine locally but what size engine would you install on the truck?

as for what engine to get, thats down to how much you can spend and what brand you like, the k 4.6 in the newer savage x is a good engine and wont break your bank balance
I'm using the LRP Z.28R Spec3 the LRP ZR.30 and .32 are also a good option
then theres Picco engines which too are great
the list goes on, these are just a few of the favourites that ive read about and seen
 
For screw sets I believe Fast Eddy sells sets as well as bearings for the savage line and as to what engine to get like GP says there are many. but with that in mind I would at least go for a good .28 sized one....

Great, thanks for the manual, i started tearing down and cleaning last night and this came in reallllllly handy.
