so i just got my savage on friday and i started the break in the first tank went fine no problem the second tank was going good then out of no where the idle just went way high. the tank only had about 1/4 left in it and the temps oputside were cold any ideas?

Half-Tank Lean. That is most likely the issue. Another possibility is an air leak.

When you say you just got the savage, do you mean that it is brand new? If so, you'll want to keep it on the rich side until you're through with break in. Only lean up the high speed needle enough to keep it running. Also make sure your idle adjustment is around 1mm, to gauge this look down the carb with the air cleaner off.

If this is half-tank lean, once you get to the tuning part, tune the engine when fully warmed up with less than half the tank full of fuel.

ok sound good. ya its brand new stil doing the break in also i did notice it was cold out side and looks like there was some mostiure in the fuel tank i was thinking that had something to do with it too. also noitce there was a little bit of fuel on top of the glow plug is that nromal??

Only reason to get fuel on the glow plug is if it is loose, then it spits out from underneath it. Did you remember to put the copper washer in under the glow plug?

Hello brother newbie and welcome to the forums. You will find this site priceless
as I do. The folks here are great and very willing to help in any way they can.
As far as your reving I would stick to stock adjustments at least untill you have
run 1/2 dozen tanks. Don't even worry about tuning yet. I try to keep the tank
full so I don't even have to think about the 1/2 tank lean.
Always remember learning a new sport is 1/2 the fun.

Thanks guys i guess I'm just a littler nervous don't wanna burn up a new engine lol the thing is i never touched the adjustments with the first two tanks the only thing i messed with was the idle adjustment it was way to high from the factory

Welcome Bobby! Take your time on the break in and follow everything to the letter! Get the first 3 to 4 tanks done rich without any adjustments to the needles accept for the idle gap which needs to be set.
Seems you have the Half Tank Lean issue...and for now...top up the fuel in the tank before it gets 1/4 tank. Bear with that for now as you can still have fun. As you get to know it better you can start looking into ways to solve it. And one thing I learned is, slow slow slow adjustments. really 1/8 turns never overdoing it. Resisting the temptation for speed is hard...haha!

thank you its so hard not to set it on the ground and just hammer down this part about owning a nitro sucks lol

you might be better off with a temp gun, that way you can tell your not going to burn up the engine and keep it at running temp, also running a nitro car / truck don't suck, i love every bit about nitros but then i like tinkering and have patients, it very rewarding, ive just bought a lrp engine and cant wait to start the breaking in process

happy savaging

oh trust me i am loving it but after watching youtube videos for the past month or so waiting to get the money together to buy one all i wanna do is rip wheelies and jump it lol

well you wont be let down, you get the breaking in bit right then tune up youll be ripping the dirt up in style, the savage is very savage 🙂

i know how you feel tho

oh the tuning bit can be a little tricky to get your head round if your new to running a nitro, have no fear tho your on the right forum 😉

alright sounds good and tips of pointers for tuning i should know other than 1/8 turns at a time?

make sure the engine is at running temp then yea your right 1/8th turns, better to be slightly too rich than too lean 😉

I started with Sidewinder....but I changed LHS to somewhere nearer to me so ended up with Byron. I have no preference...but I found the Sidewinder had more power.

I prefer( as do a lot of people here on hpisf) to use os engines medium glow plugs. I belive they are either lc3 or lc4( one is medium the other is hot)
