I read a post on setting up diffs and all the pics have an X on em. No longer working I guess.
iT ALSO SAID THE INFO WAS WRONG. frikin cap lock
My question is does anyone have a link for me to learn about setting/shimming diffs?

I am assuming you have not got the manual that comes with the truck... here is a link to one just in case you haven't got it.....

Basic manual for the Savage x 4.6...

check the exploded view on page 60 it shows the placement of all the diff parts shims and all, if you don't have the alloy diff cups that should be the first thing you buy.....

As far as which shimms to use, where, etc... It's a case by case situation. So unfortunately we can't just say, "buy blah blah blah shims and use em here here and here".

Get a couple Ofna shim kits, and use your best judgement for feel. Moving the pinion closer will tighten them up, as will moving the ring closer to the pinion.

You want the carrier tight in the case, and the ring and pinion with a little drag, no rocking back and forth without moving

I have done 3 diffs now and every time I do one the next day I find a puddle of silicone oil under the truck. Is there a trick to sealing the carrier? I am filling them to the top. Maybe that's to much.

you only need to put enough to cover the spider gears.

For bashing all one needs is grease in the diffs, I use heavy wheel bearing grease in mine and so far no leaks and no troubles.....

I thought I saw somewhere to fill em up.
Guess that's a little much huh.
One that I took apart had what looked like old grease It didn't look like it was the right thang
none of it was left were it was needed, and parts were broken.

As Jam stated, you can use grease. The argument is, oil is more consistent, and easier to tune the action front and rear.

For instance, I like 100k up front and 40k in the rear... Makes the turn turn easier and pull better. But grease is foolproof

Make sure to clean them thoroughly, replace anything that needs it, and shim them tight. I always replace my gaskets as well
