How do I tell if there is four bevel diffs on my savage? Cause so far I've bought cam type servo saver...it was already installed same with the dual disk breaks. So I'm curious is there w way to tell by just looking at the diff case? Or do I need to count the gears? What is it casue I don't want to spend money on some thing I don't need

What kind of savage do you have ? thats a good start .
unless you know for sure what truck you have , if you bought it used then most likely you will have to pull the diffs , which isn't a bad thing . if you have had your truck for a bit , gotta learn how to rebuild them anyways .

better to be safe then sorry later , and blow them .

Well its an old 25 with a lot of x stuff put on. But I looked at the diff case and its black and knda got those little rised spots in it like the prebuilt on has?

sounds like you have a used truck. previous owner could have used diffs with bevels or not. no way to know without opening up the diffs. :salute:

So I'm gonna have to tear it open so I figures id refill em I picked up some 10k weight should I put that in both front and rear diffs? Or is there a combanation I should use like 10 and 30 or some thing?

thats a preference only experience will be able to tell ya. i ran 10k front & rear on my nitro & now 50k in both on the flux.

Well I tore em down and am proud to say I have four bevel gear diffs front and rear! So my question is what do I do to bullet proof em!?

Yea there's a big diffrance! Wow
So what about the internal gears? Are those bp? Or are there bp one we have to get?

what i do is go to HPI's web site and download the manuals for the different savages. i look at the exploded views and compare parts. the new manual for the XL shows 102692 now for the ring and pinion. 87193 is the part number for the bevel gears in the XL and 86032 is for the X. according to the manuals the X, SS, and XL all use 86827 differential case which is the aluminum one. i did not know that. is this true?

Sorry for the lak of info, part# is HPI102246 This is the 43T/13T there are options depending on preference. Can be found at tower hobbies. Good luck.

Mark, I'm gonna give you a couple tips when you go to put the diffs back together. I redid mine this way after I found out all the oil leaked out after I rebuilt them and upgraded to the BP diffs.

NOTE... the oil leaking out had nothing to do with the BP diff gears.

Instead of reusing or buying new stock savage diff o-rings (HPI part #6811), use Ofna P-46 o-ring (ofna part # 40009). It has a tighter tolerance around the shaft for the outdrive. I also picked up some Mugen 100k diff oil and coated the crap out of the above mentioned Ofna o-ring before I put it in. That little tip came from savagesam. I'll add links to these items at the end of this post.

The reason why I had to rebuild the diffs before I even got to run them was cuz the diff oil had all leaked out. I found a little while later that when the diff oil gets to a certain temp, it thins out a little. I'm not quite sure if this is true, just what I was told. My diffs were sittin in my garage (uninsulated) where the temps get to 100*+. Since I rebuild the second time, I let them sit in my garage for a 3-4 days in the high temps and checked to see if the oil had leaked out again. The oil never leaked out. Anyways, hope this helps you out a little.

Here's the links thru tower hobbies.
