well i decided to give nitro a try again cause i was missing the uniquness of nitro, but i didn't want to buy another truck i just don't have the room. So i decided since i had alot of the parts i would make a 2 in 1 savage and just reuse the front and the rear but change out the middle when i wanted to change. this is my first project thread so please bare with me.

so first thing was first i wanted to make my transistion into nitro as easy and trouble free as possible so i orded some parts so that i wouldn't have to change them as well and i wanted to do a mid tank mod to make tuning less complicated so went with Platinum RC Products ofna mid-tank mod (i already had the tank):

Parts1.jpg

i went through them and started with the tranny i had the 3 speed parts from my last nitro so i just needed the case along with all the slipper clutch parts so i wouldn't have to swap them with my electic also using PRC engine plate as well that was also from previouse nitro as well as the tvps:
trannycomplete.jpg

i then started with the mid-tank mod, first i made a plate to relocate the throttle/brake servo:
ServoPlate.jpg

here it is attached to the tvp:
Servoplatemounted.jpg

i don't have PRC tvps or FLM tvps so i will have to drill two holes in the side no big deal i then decided that it would be easier (cause i wouldn't have to undo the screws to the tank or to my steering top) and lighter for my flux if i just kept that mod with my flux and attach my rpm rx box to the front or rear of my savage less to swap that way but i ran in to a snag with the mid-tank mod i can't seem to attach my steering to the servo

so what do i need in order to attach it? this is as far as i have gotten i will update just as soon as more parts come in (i know its not much to look at now) and i figure out or get help figuring out how to attach my steering. thanks

Yeah they drive u nuts but u keep coming back for more lol

But that's why I'm doing it this one truck 2 options if the nitro is ticking me off I can switch to electic

well i may have fixed the steering problem but i have come to the conclusion that the PRC ofna mid-tank mod doesn't fit the stock savage xl tvps nothing fits mostly the tranny and iv modded the tvps so much that i can no longer even go back to stock so i guess this 2 in 1 savage is on hold for awhile till i can either get some flm tvps or PRC tvps still not sure it will fit cause i had to mod the plate to try and get the tranny to fit, man this SUCKS!!

sorry had to vent, lol and i was looking forward to my picco break in oh well guess its sitting for awhile as well.

not sure what you mean by nothing fits mostly the tranny, but the prc ofna 250 plate and take will fit xl tvps if you drill 1 hole each tvp to accept the rear cross brace.

in fact, the prc 250cc plate and tank would fit anysavage tvp as they all share identical interior dimensions where that plate goes.

You most have doen overlooked something prior to drilling because it will mount directly. HUMMM turn the tank mount around or upside down to see if you might have missed it. Many people have done this mod with all the savage without havinf to trash the project. I have done it on an XL which i sold to a forum member recently, so I know it can be done without mods.

How did you fix the steering issue ? I moved the servo on both my nitro and flux to be in alignment.

This is pics of the flux plate, same thing with a extra hole and made to sit low in the rear ... Did the same to my Nitro 250 plate

Before I recessed the screws on top...

This shows where Jason's holes are located compared to mine (first set of servo mounts near hole). Measure twice drill once. Simple stuff here...

Showing the hole recessed on left and the set screw holes marked. (I never drilled them, no need)

well this is how i fixed my steering problem, but I'm worried that it will rub or interfear with the front dog bone

but see in these next few pictures you can see my problem (well i hope u will be able to see my problem) yes i shaved off some of the tranny in the hopes to make it fit it still doesn't i will fix the holes in the tranny don't worry about that.

IMG_20101001_122941.jpg

as i hope you can see the tranny is hitting the nut or the extra screw

in this picture I'm holding the tranny as close to the tvps as the mid-tank plate will let me thats what i mean mostly the tranny.

in this picture you can see i have the front all the way screwed in to the steering posts and you can see i didn't drill any holes in the frame cause it doesn't go high enough.

I have to go look at mine but I thought that plate went over the top of that tranny part. Ill post back...

Put it in with just the bell crank post screws and see where it wants to sit natural. That will let you see it in a new light.

Take the pressure off it by loosening the tvp screws a bit. If the TVPS are squeezing it it wont sit right doing what I just said ..

Oops my mistake I mean the right tvp side I screw the front on but the back is bowing out I try and put it right but there's alot of tension there. Unless u understood that already. Then I will try and put it together with out to plate and see were its bowing out Thanks for all the help bank.

well i finally got the mid-tank part of my build done, I'm not sure how but the right side just went right on, weird. i did for some reason in the back have some trouble with holes lining up though i just hope everything is straight.

now for the throttle and brake attacment.

I'm still thinking of getting a set of FLM tvps though so things my change i will update you if they do, 🙂

i got my engine and pipe today i also got my clutch shoes but they doen't work so i have to send them back so break in will have to wait for awhile darn it.

Picco.jpg

isn't that the sexiest thing you have ever seen:bigsmilie:

and.....
OFNApipe.jpg

heard they were a great combo.

well i decided to go with a set of FLM ext. tvps, got a great deal from savyscott, so thanks again savyscott.

but while i was waiting for parts to arrive, i deicided to take care of a little problem that i was having with the front and rear bumper and braces. saw it on a youtube video thought i would do it and share it with you guys.

first i took a 3/32 drill bit and drilled though the bumper and the brace like so:
drillbitthough.jpg

here is a comparison of the new and old screw old on the left and the new on the right:
screwdifference.jpg

as you can see the new one is beefer than the old one (its a diff housing screw) i was having trouble with the old ones snapping to easliy.

then i took the new screw and went all the way though:
frontandrearbumperfix2.jpg

frontandrearbumperfix3.jpg

frontandrearbumperfix32.jpg

now it should be harder for the screws to break and make the braces and bumper last longer and if the screw does break will be easy to take out and replace. although i don't see them doing that. well thats it till parts come or find another mod to do while I'm waiting for them to get here thanks for looking.

well some more parts arrived to day I'm hoping i have everything needed to finish up.

IMG_20101014_144948.jpg

here is my new body I'm thinking it might be to big, i noticed that the FLM tvps are just a little bit shorter than the stock xl tvps so hopefully when i trim the body it will fit.
IMG_20101015_111858.jpg

and i got the tvps from scott, the mid tank went soooooo much easier with those.
IMG_20101014_212844.jpg

even got my receiver box on and the switch mounted and the antenna.

the battery will have to just be zip tied to the front bumper till i get the rush battery box mount from jason (seems to be slow to ship things lately placed the order on the 8th still nothing, he even said that he had them instock so i don't know).
IMG_20101015_113034.jpg

but thats about all i got done for now I'm working on it now i just took a break to update my thread.

what antenna mount is that?

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHMG1 its that one.
i shortened the antenna tube didn't like it that long.

on another note I'm having trouble with my throttle/brake setup, no matter which way i pull the trigger the break applys this is my setup am i doing something wrong here:

its getting kind of frustrating any suggestions? thanks

This is how I do mine. I also set the end points on the TX so there is no over throw

This was mock ups before I cut all the rods and hardware. Leave trim till you have it right.
