I know there is a set of setup sheets for suspension, etc but I am curious how you can run electric competitively with nitro buggies. My LHS does not have an electric buggy class, and I am concerned about the process of swapping out batteries, etc.

Some background:

My LHS has a nice track, but an almost exclusively nitro crowd. The track is pretty technical, not a lot of high-speed runs, and several BIG jumps. Mains are either 15 or 25 mins and what I have been told is that the limited electric crowd prefers to run low kv motors - I want to say they mentioned 1400 or something really low like that - and 4S 35-40C batteries. I don't know what pinion they are running, but I can find out.

Since nitros can be refueled by the pit guys in less than 5-10 seconds, how would you be able to swap out a battery that fast? Anyone solve that problem?

Anyone have any other suggestions you can provide?

Thanks!

Bob

What about coming up with something like this. Is there a way to mount two sets of batteries on the truck. If there is then you could rig up some sort of quick connect plug or something like that. Nitro will still be a bit quicker but they will also have to pit more so over the long run you might be able to make up some time. Just a thought.

I am using one pack now - I would think that 2 packs would negate the benefits just due to weight... I am trying to think of a way to do fast changes, but the space limitations are the main factor.

Last night I was looking at my Clod Buster, and man it would be nice if had a sideways configuration that I could just pop out the batt and pop a new one in :) Not enough space on a buggy. I was also thinking about removing the body pins, and using velcro along the edges of the body to keep the lid on - then I can pull it off and pop it back on real quick....

I dunno - looking for ideas :) I don't have to worry about it for a while since I need to learn how to drive it before I can race it, but just trying to keep these things in mind as I go...

Bob you are thinking about this all wrong.

If the standard at the track is a low kv motor on 4s than your 2200kv should do perfect on 3s.

A 5000mah pack should get you through a 25 min main.

The real problem is the other way around. Most tracks that alow electric to run with nitro require a mandatory pit stop for the electric to make it fair.

That's how they do it here. You must come into the pits. You cant stay out the full race. But thats only when there is not enough to run both classes.

I know guys here that are running the losi 1900 kv motor and the big tekin esc backed by 5600 4s hard case packs that have geared the buggy to get max run time and they get 26-29 minutes out of one pack if you can control your trigger finger and not waste energy wheel spinning....

More power than a buggy off the line gearing uses very little power compared to big open fast flowwing tracks in electric racing....

I have heard of these electric racers running the neu 1520 1600 kv, geared for 35-40mph on 5s or 6s. They get run times of 30 mins on a 4500-5000mah LiPo of continous running. There setups are really efficient i guess

they are starting to do that here now too ..

I'm running 2 5000mah 2s 40c's in my Vorza and I raced a few weeks ago with a Nitro buggy group. I was the only one with enough power able to clear the straight away( a table top to a double, triple set up, then another double after that set). So I think electric's vs. nitro's isn't really a bad thing. Come's down to the driver really. The Vorza comes with the same set up as the Savage flux (2200kv Mamba) in it.I'm still running the stock gearing too.
