Good Question Mickey:

here is EXACTLY what took place:
1. Nitromite mis-read a smiley took it the wrong way. (not the first time this has happened).
2. Instead of pm'ing and inquiring the member he freaked (not a problem really).
**Then**
3. he went back and deleted all of the information out of his thread rendering it useless. Go read the first post https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14257

4. his account was frozen to prevent a "mass deletion" of forum information. & sent a message to "email and admin to resolve and come back on." & "restore the post." simple as that. he still has not emailed.

**Now**
5. I'm told that he is making posts on other forums about issues.
6. He has emailed several members including myself stating he wants to come back on but still has not emailed admin.

** Conclusion **
He is welcome to come back on with no hard feelings provided that he replies to the e-mail & restores the thread info.

**At this point**
I'm getting really annoyed how it keeps coming up through other members and forums yet he won't reply e-mail & simply resolve the issue in a mature way. Its getting childish.

** Final Note**
No one is allowed to deleted posts or information that will render threads useless. If your going to post under the assumption that you can delete forum property that belongs to every member of this site then don't post here. If you begin to delete, then we will freeze your account until you speak to admin & resolve the issue. Its nothing personal.

So, who does this look bad on?

This is what he sent me:

are you gonna lift my ban or what? ive talked with bank and thought it was straightend out

I say if he's on forums talking about this site, he can just stay banned of life. This is Justins call. His comment to me wasn't even an apology. I could care less who he is. He needs to respect his fellow forum members if he wants to stay.

Hop

Yep thats all he gave me too. I wrote him a few paragraph reply and he has not replied to any thing I said in it.

So for the record and for all that want to know whats going on. I have not got a reply worthy of the time I spent typing to him explaining every thing. IF I get no effort out of people that ruin the site then I don't care to restore them . If they care and *****SHOW IT***** Then any person is welcome back from any offense.

This was given to me by a member :

Here's my final thought on this:

The purpose of a forum is to grow its information base and the only way to do that is to have the largest number of active members possible.

All forums (groups, religeons, families, biker clubs, street gangs, etc.) have rules that you must agree to follow in order to remain a part of.

Over the years ive heard more people (& youve prob seen this in a lot of posts) that peeps love hpisf because of it's "family" themed foundation, no flaming, etc.

some members have been banned because he/she repeatedly breaks the rules that they agreed to follow as a condition of membership, (the rules that has kept the bulk of our member-base coming back) it is what it is. & everyone is entitled to a "slip" or a "whoops."

But, getting back to growing the information base: no one is allowed to destroy the site or the information contained within. this is for the sole benefit of every single member here.

Deleting a thread or post, whether you created it or not, is the same as deleting code to the site itself: it is what makes up the site & is the site's sole-purpose for existing.

So, the lesson here is this: if you get upset about something, then pm a mod or admin to check into the matter and don't go deleting posts & threads. Destruction of the site is not allowed.

I know its a really great thing being able to edit posts, go back, update and add to them, but, I am a member of a few forums, RC and non RC related and this is the only one that allows members to edit their posts for so long, forever in fact.

Other forums I'm a member of allow only 15mins-1hr grace to edit spelling/grammar etc mistakes and add any further info that the member may have missed out that was meant for that post, after that time the edit button disappears for the prevention of somebody doing a 'whipnet' and removing valuable information from the site.

As this has happened twice now in recent months, adopting a similar tactic would surely prevent this ever happening again in the future?

Just a thought.

Ive yet to loose sleep over any post ever removed from this site. Most, in all actuality took the incorrect and noob set ups off helping members save money.... lol but for real I was thinking the same Londoner

I for 1 say no to that being able to go back and edit old posts with updates and such is a great thing. It alows you to keep all the information in one place and alows for someone looking for it not to have to read through 30+ posts in a thread on a how to or something.

Just my opinion though.

both of these posts have validity.

i had wondered about removing user edit/delete buttons altogether & having the option of someone contacting a mod whenever they want to update or edit. They are always asking 'what more can i do to help the forum.'

ive only seen 2 guys (out of 8,000) really go do this since ive been on & its just a reflection of them acting like spoiled children, so I'm not sure its really worth the effort.

+1 Londoner I think this would be a great idea..

ok guys lets give this a shot https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14444

On several forums i'm on the "issue" was big enough that the time allowed to edit a post was limited to 24 hours(or less). After that, no edit. None of them ever removed the buttons completely. I often find myself waking up the next day and adding more information to my posts.

Same here. Heck, sometimes I catch myself needing to edit it right after I hit "submit".

Great point Max, thank u for posting.

you still can edit.

just contact a section mod or mod for now. we are working diligently toward a software upgrade that will give us a "timer option" and other sweet features.

i know change can be a bit frustrating, but just bear with us a lil bit as we work toward the bigger & better.

well for the record, anyone needing to edit stuff can pm me anytime as thats what I'm here for!! lol
