Well my servo finally took a dump today. I opened it up and the large gear (the one that connects to the arm) stripped out like 5 teeth. So what I wanted to know is can I buy a new one and replace it? Also when I have everything out and I turn it on, the little motor in it comes on and stays on. Is this normal or is the whole servo shot? Any help to fix this at minimal cost would be great. Thanlks Terry

if its a stock servo id prolly just chuck it and pick up a new one on flea bay. if its worth more then 60 bucks aftermarket it may be worth fixing.

I am going to buy a new one and also repair the stock one for a backup. Any ideas on what kind of servo to get around the $60 mark? Thanks Terry

Make and model of the servo that died ?

I have a spare servo kicking around since I bought a few big ones to upgrade my Savvy. Maybe we can work something out.

Its the stock one for the XL Savage. I think it's SF-5. What do you have for servos? Terry

EDIT- Has anyone ever done a dual servo mod for the steering? I was thinking maybe using 2 HS 645MG's for this. I think it can be done from what I get out of it. A servo on each side of the tvp then 2 medium sized arms to a center shaft that would connect it all together finished with a Y adapter. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks Terry

i think youd be better off with 1 new SF-5 servo off of the bay for $25 or so than you would with 2x 645's.

gonna cost you less $$ in the end, less hassle & prolly work better. Also, 2 servos will draw 2x the Amperage out of your hump pack for no really good reason.

25 bucks from ebay. Do you have a link for that? The darn rebuild kits were going from 25-30 bucks. For that price I mine as well buy a new one then. What do you think running 1 645 for the steering servo? Thanks Terry

EDIT- NM, found a whole bunch on ebay for exactly what you said. Thanks again. Terry

Is the stock one that good of a servo that you would by again over other ones. Just wondering because for that price I would by 2 and use the other as the t\b servo. Terry

I would just get a Hitec or look for a good servo on e-bay. I just recently upgraded to a Ace servo and I'm sure when it arrives i will love it. The SF-5 is a nice servo IMO i went from JrZ590M to a SF-5 and i like the Sf-5 a whole lot better.. I had a REAL bad experience with Jr radio servos though.

One last question before I hit the order button. Do I buy analog or digital and what is the difference. I have the stock rx\tx that I use. Thanks Terry

Stock Tx/Rx is Analog. No sense in buying Digital servos unless your gonna upgrade to Digital Tx/Rx.

SF-5 has more torque than a 645mg, not sure about the speed but neither servo is fast by any means.

IMO if your gonna run Analog & want a decent servo/price, you'll be pretty happy with the SF-5 which is mfg by Futaba.

If you wanna upgrade your Tx/Rx/Servos to digital & add torque & speed, that is a different conversation.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. I would love to upgrade to digital but it's out of my price range right now. Terry

What would happen if I used a digital one? Would I break or damage anything? I might have a deal on a Associated ds1015 for 50 bucks and i thought that servo might be a good one. Terry

Well I just bought 2 Hitech servos. The first one is a HS 5955TG and the second is a HS 5645MG. Hopefully these will do the job. The specs on them are insane for torque. The 5955TG is about .05 seconds faster than the SF-5 but the torque is 333oz compared to 124oz. I bought both shipped for $55.00 bucks. To me it was a good deal. What do you guys think? Terry

Probaly not but for the price I didn't want to pass it up. I don't know to much about servos but now I have 2 for the steering servo and 2 for the t/b servo. The way I drive my truck those extras will come in handy. Terry
