Picking a servo - thoughts?

OK, so the time has come to replace the throttle servo on the XL - the SF-1 has bit the dust. I am thinking about putting in a HS-645MG since it is reasonably fast, but strong - 133oz - and that would help with braking (and I have an extra one) - thoughts? I am planning on the alternate Ofna mod for the throttle/brake (no mixer) so my thinking was that the extra torque would help.

I also have 2 JR Z590's and one 270(?). Basically the stock servo's from an 8ight.

I have a nice Futaba on the Hellfire - I forget the model, but it is FAST and 208oz - it throws the Badlands around with no problem, even sitting still, but it was too expensive to get another one.

I am trying to figure out where to put the servos I have - I got a good deal on the 645MG's, so I have two, plus a HS-945MG (153oz) that I think I am going to install as the steering servo.

Man, I forgot how expensive servos can get!

Any help is appreciated!

Bob

First question: What Tx/Rx are you using? Digital or Ano? If Ano do you plan to upgrade to digital soon?

I literally JUST switched to a DX3S - I have an SRT3300 RX in both the Hellfire and XL.

Sweet, ok. Forget the analog servos, you wanna match a digital servo to that Radio equip.

you say your lookin for a t/b servo.... whats your budget?

Well, I don't have one - that's not to say I have limitless funds, it means I haven't budgeted any for new servos per se.

What are the downsides to using analog servos? When you compare the performance of an analog servo on a digital RX vs the same servo on an analog RX, is there any difference?

Thanks!

Bob

ACE DS 1313 would be my next choice 173oz/.13 $77.00 http://www.amainhobbies.com/product...4/n/Ace-R-C-DS1313-Super-Torque-Digital-Servo

I'm presently running a hitec (which is similar in specs to the ACE) for steer on my nitro servo. it makes an annoying buzzing sound but other than that, not bad. http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-7985mg_servo.html

And this is the steer servo on my flux 200oz/.10 🙂rock🙂http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230390531716&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WXF%3F&GUID=9378f1041250a0e205766f66fba96ace&itemid=230390531716&ff4=263602_263622 more torque than you need on t/b but sweet speed!

I hope I'm understanding correctly, but if you run analog servos with your Digital Tx/Rx, you wont get the data transfer speed out of your servos that your Tx/Rx wants to send it. Could also be 'glitchy' because your sending a digital signal to an analog servo. Also could affect your fail safe operation.

On my Futaba 3pm, if your running analog servos, you can switch to HRS mode which will match the signal closer to analog. Kinda defeats the purpose of upgrading to Digital Tx/Rx though.

My primary purpose in going to the DX3S was model consolidation and frequency collision avoidance 🙂

I will look around - thanks for the info! I think for the time being I am stuck with the analog - for now - but I definately bookmarked that servo!

you can get a dig servo with specs comparible to the hs 645 at a comparible price.

Agreed on the data transfer speed of the digi's. With digital servos you get a more adjustability with the servo arm end points and more precise movement of the arm. Not sure about this glitchy thing tho. I have analog servos for my T/B with no issues of glitching, I just need to make sure the endpoints are not set to to prevent blowing up the servo. IMO, upgrading to a digital TX/RX setup does not necessitate an upgrade to digital servos and unless racing will not make much of a difference, but using digital servos with a stock fm transmitter is a waste.
