well i replaced my diffs and up graded to the XL diffs. I took the savy out the other day did about 6 laps around the track and brought it back in because it was getting dark, so i decided to take a look at the Ring and pinion gears just to make sure every thing was running smoothly. to my surprise just after maybe 7 laps they had a lot of dirt in them "a lot" is their a way to stop some of this? it has to be getting in through the skid plate and engine plate. seems like a design that hpi should have already solved! :sniper:

Iv run in some real dusty conditions, that fine dust gets into everywhere and i cant say iv ever seen any contaminants in the bulkheads, are all your skid plate screws tight?

When the plastic skid is tightened onto the alum plate there is a rectangle seal that pushes into the hole in the alum plate and that has always held good for me, i guess you could use a thin bead of thick grease or sealant around that rectangle seal but mines never needed it.

lol yes my skid plates are on tight i hear its a pretty common problem. i don't picture that much dirt getting in through the bearings so it has to be getting in through the skid plate, seems like hpi should have a thin rubber seal for this

Just asking coz if the screws wernt tight then it would easily let dirt in, just a thought.

no my savage was down for a month going through the change over to to XL diffs and other parts i needed to get the project done right, so she was stripped down to a pile and put back right. and checked again. and when i found all the dirt checked again. i think the screws hold the skid plate on but don't stop the dirt from getting past them..thats why this thread will help, if any one at least me..lol but on another note maybe if i upgrade the skid plates it will solve my problem??? is their a difference between the newer and the old ones??
