ok guys ive been thinking of how to make the exhaust flow a little smoother and how to help with the heat. ok here is my little question rant lol, with the tune pipe can you wrapp header tape around the pipe like in a 1:1 car or truck to help with the heat of the pipe and wat effects are different from a 1:1 header? will it make the exhaust flow faster/smoother or will it retain more heat than as apposed to cooling the heat which is in turn pushed into the tank threw the pressure line? and is there a way to help keep the fuel cooler cuz i know with a real car/truck the cooler you can get the fuel the more power you can get and will that help with peformance or hinder it?

eric....

Depending on how the pipe engine combo is working, adding heat can help with the top end rpm. I'll use boats for the explanation as some are set up with a pipe cooling system. Down the straightaways the pipe gets hot which helps with rpm as the exhaust pulse travels faster in hotter air, as they enter the corner they use a third channel to open a valve and inject water into the pipe. Injecting water cools the pipe very fast and slows the speed of the exhaust pulse which in turn gives a better "tuned" effect at lower rpm increasing the torque so they can power through the corner better. As they leave the corner the water injection is turned off letting the pipe build heat and pushing the "tuned" effect back up to higher rpm.

Now because we don't have water on board the savage lol, you can really only work on the top rpm. Usually the hottest part of the system is the header and divergence cone, the temp drops quite a bit by the time you get to the stinger. If you were to wrap the entire header/pipe your temps would go up inside the whole pipe, this in turn should help the exhaust pulse travel faster which will help the top end rpm and power output. Hope this all makes sense, I have thought of wrapping pipes for years, just never got around to it.

Me too, I have never tried it but I think it may be tough getting a nice fit, on a macs pipe, no problem. Eric said he had some extra so I gave my reply in hopes that he tries it and posts pictures so we can see how it "lays" on the pipe and if it's flexible enough to stretch around tight corners. There are alternatives, I have a steel ceramic coated 26cc tuned pipe, they put the ceramic coating on to help retain the heat, the header is also steel and coated as well. I also believe the theory that steel resonates better then aluminum, after running side by side with an aluminum version, you can hear the steel pipe has a much more crisp sound.

$200 for the header pipe combo and it came with the coating on already. I know you can have it added after the fact but it will probably be expensive and may be hard to find.

i plan on having pics of the pipe wrapped up hopefully by tomorrow. and maybe a running vid of before and after the wrapping of the pipe.
