Hi all,

Kind of a bummer. I have a Savage 25 that I bought used a few months ago. I've been using the stock body, until I completely trashed it. I ended up buying a new Durango body from Hot Bodies. It's the first body I've ever painted, and it turned out pretty nice. Nothing fantastic like I see here on the forums, but I was happy with it for a first time out.

Problem is, I ran my Savage with the body on, and I got a big bubble on it now where the exhaust pipe is. I looked at the stock body, and where the exhaust pipe is, the paint is really worn, and a bubble was starting to appear. My Savage is pretty much stock. I'm still running the .25 engine, although I did upgrade to the HPI aluminum pipe. The pipe is really close to the tvp's, so it fits like it's supposed to. Is it normal for body's to get worn in this area? It's not a huge deal, because I'll probably end up destroying this body eventually anyway, but I want to be the one to kill the body...not the truck!

you can go to an automotive shop and get a piece of heat shield and place it on the body. the heat shield is the same thing for real cars i helps keep the heat away from anything that could catch on fire or melt.

if you want to save the body from the exhaust pipe ... get metal tape ...you can get it at hardware stores wall mart etc.. its chrome colored metal tape like size of duct tape... place a piece on the inside of the lid it will keep it from melting ...

+1 the foil tape works well. I got a body from Blazer and he had put a piece of extreme dyna mat on the body. thats not cost effective unless you have scraps left from a install.

Yeah, my Yoshimura exhaust system for my GSXR-600 came with heat tape (silver) and one bend of the exhaust was actually in contact with the plastics with nothing but the heat tape in between the exhaust and the body work and it never melted or even warped from the heat. Pretty good stuff. I've seen others on this site use it on savage bodies with success.

Yeah, I was thinking of using duct tape, but I'll get a roll of that metal tape. Thanks for the tips guys.

You can also use that aluminum tape anywhere the body touches the car to prevent paint damage from vibrations. Works great for me.
