I don't own a savage yet but I am looking in to getting ether an X or an XL which one would be better to get the X or the XL?
Could you guys tell me some pros and cons about the X and the XL trucks? if they are any lol Then I also though about buying a X and then buying all the upgrade's to make it in to a XL truck. What do you guys think about that option? I also think If I do this it may end up beening more money in the long run but not really sure about that.

I am really not going to race it just bash it round alot I want something bigger snice I only own a jato 3.3 which is really small and not that good for off road lol.

Thanks guys

Personally id go for an XL then put Fastlane machine TVP's on, 3 speed + high speed 3rd, thicker engine plate (x engine plates crack), super heavy duty drivetrain and extended axles, hump pack, steel spur etc all as standard.

I bought an X then converted it to an XL with all the above, then threw on an FLM chassis which is slightly shorter, only bad point i can see with the XL is the K5.9, though some people do get on with it fine.

this is not an easy question & i pondered it myself before i bought my F4.6rtr:

i built my truck the way that Londoner listed, but in the end, i have a box of parts that i paid for and never used.

if i knew then what i know now, i would have done it this way:

1. bought my TVPs of choice.

2. download the XL & Xss user manuals from hpiracing.com

3. make a list of all the parts & part #'s i wanted.

4. search e-bay & this site for deals.

in the end, you can build a savage with a sweet mill, the XL goodies that Londoner mentions and all that for less than you can buy a rtr or kit from your LHS.

totaly agree with frddy but if you decide to get a rtr go with the x rather than the xl... its a solid machine right out of the box... as for the xl... its good other than the mill...but do you really want to buy a truck then be bummed cause its not as mean as you were hopeing for? and then find out you neeed a new mill to replace the brand new stock 5.9 just to get it to act as mean as a x 4.6?lol money on top of new money ..ouch! lol happy bashn... just think every thing through its all good...

Very true, this is the way i plan on building my second savvy, choose my TVP's then build it from there, all the parts can be bought new so cheap on eBay especially in the USA, id rather do that than buy another RTR and spend more money on top improving it then having a pile of stuff thatl never be used.

this is the approach I'm takin for my flux. it will be a few more bucks, but much better parts all around.

Freddy has the right Idea that is how I am building my 3rd savage. If you have a little know how you can put one together piece meal no problem.

if money is not an issue, is it ok if i suggest this? i would want to do this, but i got money issue.

get a savage XL RTR (or roller if you can get a great condition used one), then do these step:

1) change tyre to savage dirt bonz, this should reduce a lot of weight and improve torque compared to terra pin.
2) put engine of choice (i think .30 is better)
3) use 16/49 cb and spur.

then keep terra pin tyre, 5.9 engine and cb/spur as spare, or sell it. this way you can have a good performer savage.

Thanks guys now I have something to think about lol.

I just talked to my lhs and he said that he was driven a XL with a K4.6 engine in it and said it handled really well. Have any of you guys tryied the small engine in the XL?

ok theres a few things here lol... one thing is that lhs guys for the most part are as smart on savages as a box of rocks. sure theres a few that might know something about um but as you learn more about the savys you will learn real fast the lhs guys don't know squat. the xl is a good truck minus the k5.9 mill its trash. the k4.6 is better but theres so many other mills out there that are better the the stock k4.6 mill. another rull of thumb... any mill over a .28 will get owned all day by a .28 mill... .28 will eat a .30 up all day long due to its mass inside more mas to turn means slower mill. ...so imo your better off getting a savy x rtr. or a savy x ss kit but not the xl. the savy x will out perform the xl all day long right out of the box. we wouldnt steer you wrong in here ..I'm just trying to save you a lil disapointment and money ... get the x or xss kit. keep in mind the ss don't got electronics.. the x rtr is a beast right out of the box and you can gradually convert it to the parts of your choice if wanted. hope this helps you out ... good bash on...
