PRC 125- HPI Savage OFNA Mid-tank kit (250cc)

I've been noticing more and more threads asking "whats the best/easiest mid-tank," etc.

I've recommended this kit to more members than i can count mainly because it comes with all hardware to mount the plate to the truck & the tank to the plate. I first noticed this kit on Bankrupter's Savage over a year ago and didn't know anything about carbon-fiber.

Platinum RC Products also sells the tank, servo-mounts and other things that you would need to do this mod from start to finish.

I already had a mid-plate for my 250cc tank made from 6061, but wanting to reduce weight, i bought this kit; it arrived today.

Packaged well for shipping, this is what arrived today

Notice that all plate and tank mounting hardware is included and that the plate is pre-drilled to accept servo-mounting underneath and various fuel tanks

Carbon-fiber is thick, strong & layered. I received my kit at work and a bud and I immediately removed it from the package and tried to break it over the edge of a desk. it didnt budge.

Take note of the cuts on the edges; straight and clean.

Tank mounted on plate; mounted right on without issues. (*note, this is savyscott's truck with PRC 125, my truck is in a million pieces but our trucks are 95% the same).

Tank and plate mounted on savage (note: FLM LCG EXT TVPs used on our trucks)

Impressions so far:

I am impressed by the strength and weight (or lack thereof). Machining and cuts are professionally done and the carbon-fiber is thick, strong and very sexy looking. Packaging and shipping? Outstanding.

Quality.............. 10
Good luck finding a stronger kit than this, all parts are of excellent quality and workmanship.
Price................. 10 A great value at $34.80 considering the quality of parts and all parts are included in 1 price.
Installation........ 10 Again, Savyscott & i used this kit with the FLM Tvps & everything dropped right in & bolted right up. Installation was very uneventful (just how you want it).
Functionality...... 10 Does exactly what its supposed to do; perfect for 250cc tank & flm tvps.
-------------------------
Overall............... 10

Conclusion: Carbon is one of the strongest (if not the strongest) elements on the planet; seems like a natural fit for a savage. The mid-tank mod is popular as it relocates the tank to a secure location within the tvps, can cure the 1/2 tank lean issue that is common with savages and can increase run time substantially if you go with the OFNA 250cc tank like i did.

This kit comes with all parts needed for tank installation and is perfect for savage-lovers of all experience levels because it takes a lot of the "what part #'s do i need" question out of the equation.

Improves the look of your Savage as well.

Nice frddy!! I think frddy was the one to recomend this to mod to me..(Not sure its been so long ago when I ordered it.) But I just got done installing this plate along with the tank on my savy. Everthing bolted right up with no problems, except me being a noob...I would recomend this to anyone that is going to go to the 250cc tank.. Thanks again frddy...:resp:

Overall I would give this a 10 out 10..

Perfect timing! I was wanting to ask Larson what was all included on the ofna kit. Thanks freddy! And Thanks Larson for putting out such a sweet kit. You should be hearing from me in a few weeks.

frddy: "Hey I just got this sweet carbon fiber mid-tank kit!"

Co-worker: "Wanna try and break it?"

frddy: "Hell ya!"

Great review Frddy! Can't wait to see it with the tank on.

I have been looking at this 250 kit for a while. This will really help me when I buy.

Has anyone had a problem of fuel on the CF? Just wondering because maybe the fuel does something to the CF, like soften it or something. Idk lol. It's good to know though.

ya, me & my bud almost broke a wrist trying to snap it.... it wouldnt budge. idt fuel (or much else for that matter) is going to harm it.

Oh okay. Sounds good then. Looking to buy one of these in the future. Did you buy your tank and other accessories from PRC too?

i didnt, only caz i had already been running the tank on a different plate.

i know Visionary got his plate kit, tank, servo-mounts and Jason even included some fuel line for him. Opened the box, few nuts & bolts, midtank done!

Hey thanks Frddy, Awesome review and a I appreciate it. Those are some great pictures you took and glad you and all the rest are happy with the products.

I will be the first to admit it in the beginning we had a few issues but have resolved them now and have drastically improved the cuts on all edges, holes, ect.

Like Frddy mentioned we do try to stock everything needed like tanks, servo mounts, receiver box's, antenna mounts, battery box's and so on that work with our products as well.

I also wanted to point out that we do have another kit that is pre drilled for the Hellfire tank (Our PRC112) which is a 150cc tank. It's a tad easier to install due to the ease of mounting the steering servo in the original location and all but does not have the fuel capacity of the 250cc tank either.

Just a comment on weather fuel will harm the CF. I have not seen any ill affects with dripping/slipping fuel onto the CF. I have not seen any such marks or softening of any CF.

Anyhow thanks again Frddy for the review and keep up the great work.

here is a pic of the plate installed in my savage. if you look closely, you can see that i sealed the edges with C/A.

i consulted with Jason on this matter and he stated that sealing the edges may provide a little peace of mind on parts that can contact the ground (such as shock tower tops or a roll bar) but will provide little (if any) benefit to other parts.

He also stated that sealing with C/A wouldnt harm the parts & i was bored so i figured i'd try it out.

Notice that the plate is a perfect fit, dropped right in and zero issues with alignment or install. I decided to use a set of Hellfire Fuel tank mounting posts that i had lying around just really for that reason.

One not on sealing: if you do decide to do it, then be careful not to get any c/a on your fingers or the face of your c/f caz it will make a mess for sure.
