Axel/wheel extenders

Hi folks A quick one this, I have a savage x and want to make it wider improving the handling etc. will I be able to use the standard wheels (14mm i think) or need new ones 17mm? if so its not a straigh case of the axels I will need new set of wheels and as I have 3 savages I would like to stay...
