Transmission question

Hello. New here.

My son picked up a nitro hpi savage.
Was wondering if the tranny is supposed to free spool or engage tranny when spur gear is spun by hand. When i turn it counter clockwise the tires spin. Just wondering if this is normal. I figured it should spin free till it hit a higher rpm like a cintrifical clutch type deal.

Free spool clockwise and engaging counter clockwise.
Works as it should..

Thanks. It is working fine then.
Just put the new motor on it this am. Gonna hopfully get it broke in this weekend.

Make sure the spur/bell mesh is not too tight, just a slight tick of play when holding the bell and rocking the spur....

I usually put a small pease of paper between the two gears when tightenig motor down. I read that somewhere and it seems to work.

I've personaly never tried that but have heard of it. It's also in the manual. I usually set my mesh by feel its worked fine for me to date.
