is this why it's listed consistently as one of the first hop ups that should be made ?

🙁

it's a shame too... it's a beautiful weekend here on the east coast and i was really looking forward to finishing getting the engine broken in and start tuning this new puppy.

any recommendations for a replacement ?

look for a metal gear, dual ball bearing

torque 188 oz. and up
speed .15 sec aprox.

The choices are many everyone has theryr preferences which usally boils down to availability and or customer service.

I say look for something with a warranty so, when you break it you can mail it to the mfg. for a free replacement.

My choice for steering: JR Z8800t http://www.thebarnfloor.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=516

why?
1. off the shelf on sale at lhs
2. It has a 3 yr warranty
3. It meets my needs

good luck

I put a hitec 645 in mine with the bearing upgrade at the same time so far i like it the steering response is sweet. but i have read alot on this site and some people break the hitec's just the same as the stock servo i guess it matters how much money you want to spend

i went all out and ordered a 7955TG along with a bearing upgrade kit and a few other misc parts as well from SMF. i'm hoping to get the package today so i'll be runnin' for the weekend.

the bearing upgrades... ummm... where are the bearings that get replaced ?

bearing upgrade? for steering posts?

nice servo, do you have a hump pack?
that servo will tax your batterys.........

not sure it will come with a sketch core, but take a peek at posts #4 & #5 in this thread https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9215

if you need further help, just whistle :drunk:

so the easiest way to get at the steering bearings is to remove the battery box ?? cornfused

.. this is one of the reasons i originally wanted the SS, because you learn so much by putting something together, all the LHS had available was a RTR, which i'm not complaining about... i just woulda been much more familiar with the assembly/disassembly if i built it myself from the start.

Core,

I just put a DS1015 and believe me it's like it wants to rip the steering. No matter what kind of wheels I put it will turn them like feathers. But, also I put a 2700 MAh hump pack to juice this power hungry servo. The only downside that I can see is the cost. I got mine from the bay for $80 shipped.

the specs:

Transit time: 0.108 sec/deg @ 6V
Torque: 14.5 kg/cm (201.4 oz/in) @ 6V
Weight: 66g (2.328 oz)
Length: 41.8mm
Width: 20.6mm
Height: 39.6mm

Hope this helps.
