So my savage XL decided to eat it's transmission ugh. In total it ripped off 14 teeth off the gears. I contacted HRP
, the USA distributor and customer service handler for HPI, and they said they will most likely be sending me a replacement transmitter. I asked them if the problem with these transmission is fixed of course they claimed yes.

So my question is this. Should I actually believe that or what can I do to remedy the problem and stop this from happening again?

So here's the damage it seems like all of them are bad as well as one gear is missing all its teeth. I'm in contact with the manufacturer and they are going to get me a replacement but I'm worried it'll just do it again?

GEEZ !! I wonder if they cheaped out on the gears, My X has been thru hell and has held up pretty well. one thing is do not land jumps while on power, or you will be breaking diffs and other gears, Hope they make it right with ya

Thanks for info on jump landings! This is my first HPI truck and I've always wanted one but never was able to until now. I'm wondering too if they went cheap on the gears. HRP, HPI distributor and customer service handler, states on the new trucks it is fixed. We shall see about that. They are claiming they are going to yank a whole new transmission out of a new truck and send it to me!

The only time I have had teeth damaged but nothing like that was when one of the step grub screws worked loose on the 2nd gear clutch, just made sure I thread locked it when rebuilding it! 👍🏻

This was a brand new untouched unit I don't understand why this even happened to begin with! Do y'all have any suggestions on what type of gear oil/grease to use when cleaning and reinstalling the new parts?

Sadly perhaps down to the poorer HPI Quality with different manufacturers now, as you have found though HPI stand by there 2 yr warranty & will replace any failed parts like your gearbox!
I would just clean out using brake/clutch cleaner & I have just smeared the gear teeth with general motor grease I had, what ever you use will just get flung off gears & land on gearbox casing!

Good news I have all the parts to repair my gearbox though it feels a little daunting as I've never had to rebuild a gearbox like this before. I have marine RC grease that HPI suggested to use to lube it. Will that work fine? Though I e found one thing that bothers me. There's one gear that's like a 14t that is supposed to replace one gear in mine that had like only 4 teeth, it's part of the high speed 3rd gear set. Did they change some things in this gearbox or I'm just crazy?
