I've just bought a savage x 4.6. It needs a new slipper clutch assembly, I realise this is supposed to protect your gear box but from what I've seen and read most people just crank the tension nut as tight as possible.
I have seen slipper clutch eliminator kits. Has anyone fitted one of these and been running it a while? Any good?
Also the only ones I have seen ship from China and take an age to arrive, does anyone know of a UK stockist? And what online UK RC stores are the best for Savage X 4.6 spare parts?
Thanks 😁👍

Pa check that the person who add the truck before Asnt fitted the savage DUAL slipper clutch discs they back out n slip none stop chances are slim but worth a check bro

As Vinni says Wheel Spin Models is your best bet for good range of spares! 👍🏻
Just stick a metal spur gear in from fleabay & tighten right up, works & has for me! 👍🏻

Nahh the clutch assembly came in a bag n had all sorts fukery/bodge jobs done to it. Looks like was slipping all the time so they tried to perm lock by drilling holes in parts in an attempt to bolt it together! 😱

First thing I would do is upgrade to a steel spur gear. Remember, you need a hardened clutch bell as well in the process. If you can have a clutch eliminator, by all means, do that. Those slipper clutches are terrible, especially on the plastic spur. If there is even medium slip on the plastic ones, the heat generated literally deforms the spur, making it impossible to turn it tight enough to work.

Yeah, the slipper clutch is not great unless it's tightened right up - then backed off 1/4 of a turn.

Plastic spurs will melt if your clutch bell gets hot. It's inevitable - even if you baby it.

If you run in an enclosed space - the plastic spurs will melt. If you run anything with more torque - the plastic spurs will shed teeth and/or melt.

Definitely get a steel spur. And as mentioned above - hardened steel clutch bell to match.

Personally, I prefer slider clutches over conventional 3 or 4 shoe clutches - and I certainly would never recommend aluminium clutch shoes. Eeeew. Horrible idea.

These sliders have more contact patch, don't generate as much heat, engage more progressively, last longer, don't kill your clutch bearings and have much, much longer service intervals.

And they perform. ☝️
