Savage No.8 Joins my fleet of Savages. I already have 7 of this Models in various guises ranging from standard .25s to XLs to Truckzillas. This one was made from parts acquired from building the other 7. Was looking through my parts bin and thought there are enough parts to put together another truck, well here she is. Savage X truck running a K5.9 mill. The wheels are going to be changed as have a set of Havok rims on order for it, also a set of GT-6 bumpers. Other than these items this truck owes me nothing, sweet deal me think.

Yes these wheels do look the part, got 3 trucks running them now and a 4th set in the post. They ain't no good for bashing as the centres are to thin but they are well cheap and look cool. Have 2 sets of metallic red and 1 set of black, set in post are black to. They are ZD Racing 8477. These tires also fit the new HPI Havok wheels perfect.

Very nice! Especially for coming from left over parts. Looks like it'll be fine and sounds like it's gonna go fast! Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks for the compliment, It's amazing how many parts you accumulate over time from doing upgrades to your other models, also from buying secondhand parts that come with other parts you don't need. Only missing a few small parts to put together No.9. Werther it will happen or not remains to be seen as slowly running out of living space. LOL.
Did run it yesterday for the 1st time and it punched out the spur gear in no time at all, had a feeling it would as was running 15/47T clutch & plastic spur. Have now changed to 16/49T plastic as it's all I have in my spares box but will need to go metal spur I think. The mill is a brand new K5.9 which I picked up awhile ago dirt cheap. They are a royal pain in the arse to tune and I think the Standard HPI F4.6 is a far better mill and more fun. Plus these K5.9s drink fuel like an alcoholic. Seriously thirsty.
Below is the spur gear, not bad for 10 minutes of use and it was perfectly meshed.

Ran No 8 again today with new 16/49T gearing and must say ran good, This has to be the easiest K5.9 I have to tune and I have 4 of them, 3 fitted to trucks and 1 on the shelf as a spare. The other 2 are right pains in the arse but this 1 tunes just as easy as my other collection of mills. Just goes to show that there is always 1 good apple in the bag as these mills notorious to tune . Even on this gearing it still broke half a tooth off the spur, will need to go metal but this gearing suits this mill very well on this setup.. It's running 29/9T diffs on 150mm ZD Racing 4877 wheels on 17mm modified hexs. Only running through a 2 speed transmission tho. Reckon I'm getting close to the full 3.75hp they are suppose to produce.

I've heard the same about tuning the 5.9s and have been so far lucky I think on the one I currently have running. I think anyway haven't been doing it long and besides videos it's really the only one I've ever heard in person haha. No wheelies yet but it runs strong and still waiting on the break pieces to come in to get back at it but I think I've got it pretty good for a newbie. Got the other XL with 5.9 mounted and going to begin taking it apart for the first time. My first rebuild and not going to do everything I wish I could but going to post pics along the way. That one I don't believe was ever broken in all the way. I think it's had three maybe four tanks of gas thru it ever. Needs a good cleaning and most of the rubber pieces and such as it has sat for a long time. It'll be fun and I appreciate in advance all the help from everyone on here as it goes. After finding the forum I feel like I can rest into them now and if I get lost I got back up!

Yep when you get a good one, its better than good. with the right tune they are great mills. Most people slag them off as woeful. I even slag them off when they give me jip but like I said I have 4 of them and 2 K4.6HO mills to boot. Got 1 sitting on the shelf at the moment that has broken the bearing cage on the main crank bearing and this mill was still performing fantastic even with this damage. Got a spare crankcase with bearings installed ,new crank and new backplate for it but just not got around to switching the parts out yet. The big issue I am find with them is not the running but get spare parts like OWBs and pistons/sleeves. Most other parts can still be sourced off the net. Have modded all mine to use a 12mm starters which took all the headache out of finding 11mm roto or pull starts. Also the 11mm starter shaft they come with seems to be made of very soft metal and doesn't take much time to wear thin causing the bearing to slip and then eventually break and die.

Do 12mm starters swap right out or do you have to change any other parts? The rig I have down to get going next has original roto start but is shot was first wanting to switch to pull start but have yet to see a video where that actually looks like a good idea. Was going to just order same replacement but with them being 20 bucks not sure if it's why or if it's smart. Appreciate the mention of 12mm starters I'll look into one and if I have any questions I may just post a pic before I order so I know it's right. If you don't mind

The 12mm shafts I use are a direct replacement for the 11mm ones, just pull the old one out and push the new 12mm one in. I take it yous from the states as talking about bucks not £s. I live in the UK and get the 12mm shafts from a company called RC Scrapyard who are only a few mile from where I live.

I don't know what engines these are meant for but they are a direct replacement for the K series starter shaft fitting the K4.6 & K5.9 mills.
I do put a 1mm shim between the backplate and the 12mm side of the shaft, not needed but makes sure the 12mm hex is fully inside the pull/roto start as some have a bevel on the 12mm hex side of the pull/roto start.

LOL. All my trucks look brand new.
Yer I think these wheels look good to, that's probably why I have 4 sets now, 2 black and 2 metallic red. They're dirt cheap to but but I wouldn't recommend them if your intending to go bashing, They are really thin at the centres as you can see but for 30 bucks a set of 4 who gives a crap. 👌

Sweet ride bro. 👍
And for 30 bucks sure can't go wrong. Makes me want to clean mine!
Thanks Bro, yer she is pretty sweet.
Just finished putting No.1 back together after replacing a snapped starter spring in the mill. its a gutter when a 99p part finishes your play. But hey all back together now, so will be taking it out this weekend for a test as have dropped the clutch/spur gear from 15/47 to 15/49. It was originally running 17/47T on 150mm dia tyres but couldn't keep the front down at all, Now running 170mm boots and found it alot harder to get the front up, hopefully this gearing will be a happy medium, the weekend will tell. It is running a 3 speed.
