savage electric conversion and no reverse

Got my savage 5.9 converted to electric. I keep the throttle servo, making it allow 3 speed transmission. However, I found the savage has no reverse.

Is there anyway I can fix it or its tranny problem? Thanks for help.

Back up for a moment. Why would you have a three speed transmission in an electric Savage? You can't use it that way. Due to a one way bearing in the transmission, when your motor drives in reverse, there will be no drive to your wheels. Even with your servo/ reverse module switching the direction at its output.

Thanks. It was a savage xl 5.9 . I convert to electric with kershaw conversion kit. I keep the throttle servo to keep the 3 speed. May be I just set the esc without reverse.

Yeah, the Kershaw conversion came with direct drive, but I will give the 3 speed a shot, see if its fun.

Castle 2200kv with MMX. Just finished my test run with 4s. A bit slow for 4s (no wheelie) but plenty of torgue for hill climbing. Now hanging with castle link PC program and 3 speed tranny.

4s should be within the range of popping wheelies. Yes, you will get more out of 6s. But your Tranny will absorb some of the power, as I'm sure you know. But your biggest problem is your discharge rating on those batts. 30c is extremely low for the application (aka weight of your savage).

I did a Hyper 7 nitro to brushless conversion a number of years ago and I was extremely disappointed with the performance. After talking with folks about it, they asked me what my C rating was. I forgot the value at the time but it was close to 15 or 25c. They told me to do nothing less than 55c. So I got some Gen Aces that were 65c. Good lord did that change the game completely. Then, since 65c was good. 100c must be better... Well Ya, but the price for MaxAmps batteries is insane. But that buggy screamed! Until I burnt up the Motor.

Not sure how long a shifting trans will hold up to the brute torque of electric. The purpose of a multi-speed trans for nitro is to try and keep the engine closer to it's power band while increasing speed. With electric, you have 100% torque available most of the time, so when it shifts, it's slamming the gears hard.

@nickmind and olds97,

Thanks for your info. I'm a little tight on budget, may be I go for 6s with 2 x 3s 20c-30c battery instead? 55c - 65c battery looks pretty expensive to me.

Yeah, the 3 speed tranny doen't mean for brushless. After the tranny gears wasted, I will just use the kershaw tranny instead :D

Thanks. Would love to check them out, but I properly buy from local hobby shop, since LiPo battery in many cases doesn't ship internationally (I live in Hong Kong).

96.72947% of the world's LiPo batteries are manufactured in Main Land China. 100% of those batteries are shipped through Hong Kong. :) Maybe my math is off a bit, but I would be you have access to more optionso then us.

plastic gears in that 3speed tranny are going to be wore smooth in a few runs, IF the one-way holds out.
3spd trannies just arent made for that kind of abuse.
