Well I finally off loaded some on road gear and bought a Ve8. I chose the Ve8 over the vorza because i prefered the kit as stated in another thread.
Well here is a picture of the kit

I have built kits before but hb have made building this kit really simple, my little brother could knock this over i reckon. Not only are the parts seperated into part A part B etc, each step has a bag. No accidently putting wrong screws in etc...

So far i have been happy with this kit and would have to be one of the better quality kits i have done.
I have to start thinking about what motor and servos to use, i will be checking in on the tekin forum about a motor but no clue on what servos to use. If anyone could recommend steering and brake servos that would be great. Getting late and a better pack up.
I will continue to update this thread as the build continues.
 
Just pmed him. I plan on running 4s in her and occasionly 6s for showing off. Guess i gotta wait and see what he recommends :)

and yea they tolerances on ALOT of the parts are very tight. the center shafts are crazy, they do actually hit the cross braces over time as i can see a wear spot in mine now... also with the mech brakes watch your servo. when i was running them the torque from the motor would actually pull the center diff into the servo creating sparks. if your going to run the mech brakes i would highly recommend you get the one piece motor mount and custom fab up some support braces that go from the top of the front bulkhead plate to the top of the center diff brace.
try yours first tho, made they are all different, its just a fair warning.

looking very good! for a servo i recommend the ace 1015 for steering and 1313 for the T/B

Thanks for that 88. I never was any good when it comes to picking servos.

Frddy, i was thinking that about the brake pads. Are pads usually that thick?? Ones on my 1/10 buggy arent even half as thick as these.

Thanks for the tip badasz, i have been looking for the one peice motor mount but all sold out, have to back order.

Is there any optional parts that anyone would recommend? Motor mount was a good one. Would these be worth it?
Seeing that the standard drive shafts are off to an angle

i wouldnt worry about the shafts just yet.

rear alum hub carriers

Thanks mate, on my list already are alum skids, the little skid protector thingys, motor mount and i will add hub carriers. i was looking at the front ones to add a bit of stregnth but will see how the bank balance goes, servos are on order and motor/esc is awaiting some technical advise....lol
 
I can buy the ace servos brand new or for $80 cheaper a can get hitec 7955tg servos (1 brand new, 1 three meets old). What do you guys think of the hitec? I have seen posts were ppl say it's a bit slower but more torque. I'm clueless with servos and would greatly appreciate feedback. Thanks
 
you want a fast servo in a buggy. it doesnt take much torque to turn the wheels. the ace servos are perfect and are exactly what i run.

also don't worry about the front alum carriers etc. a buddy of mine is having me build him a ve8 and he did some homework on it. he called up hotbodies and asked what they recommend for upgrades, the list i gave you is exactly what they gave him. they said the front alum spindles/carriers are unnecessary. they said the one piece motor mount is the most important upgrade there is.

aluminum skids are good ba?
 
yup, almost ever racer that has one run the alum skids. they were also recommended by hotbodies themselves. ill get myself a pair once i break the 2 sets of stockers i have. they are pretty tough but they are definitely a weak point. ive already cracked a rear skid and a front (altho the front was from a crash with a revo)

also the plastic protectors that ryan is speaking of a made by DE racing there site is DEracing.net. i run there stuff on my truggy, works great and talk about cheap!
$7 for mud gaurds (yes they work great)
$7 for 3 rear skids
$7 for a front skid/bumper combo
 
i saw the mud gaurds but wasnt sure if they worked well being were they are. the ones i saw were mounted to the front of the rear arm, wouldnt you have them on the rear?? I'm trying to get the motor plate but everywhere i looked are sold out or back order.


Also i got the hitec 7955tg servos, i ended up getting them half price brand new, but had to get them there and then. They were a far bit cheaper then i could get the ace's. I might get the aces later and put a hitec in the savage.

I got a little more done on the ve8, most of the rear arms, diff, shock tower. its getting a bit late and gotta work tomorrow. will post pics tomorrow.
 
the point of a mud gaurd is to keep the mud/debris the front tires kick up out of the rear arms therefore they are located on the front of the rear arms to do that. if you put them where your thinking your doing the complete opposite of what they are ment to do. if you put them there it will keep the mud and debris in the rear arm location.
 
Ok, I've run this kit quite a bit. I HIGHLY reccomend running the aluminum skids asap. Other than that pick up some rear springs.

For 4s I highly reccomend running the 1900, it's a super easy to drive setup with plenty of power. Geared 22/50 for the average sized 1/8 track.

Apparently some people are having trouble with braking chasis. anyone here have problems?This chasis also lets 2 LiPo config, while keeping same lap times.

They also make receiver trays, esc trays ect...

Anyway, i should be getting back to the ve8 tomorrow, been busy with work and stuff....cant wait, Currently finalizing order for parts.

Well i was able to do more today. Postman came and dropped off my Hitec servos

First step was to complete the rear diff and mount the shock tower and rear wing. Same as the front really but with a wing.

Next came the shocks. Pretty easy and straight forward to build

Next step, install the servos. i have a dx2s therefor no channel mixing :( I went to LHS before the servos came in and bought a y harness reversal lead so the mech brakes would work. But when the servos came in i found out you can reverse the direction of the servo with a programmer? don't have programmer so lead will be fine.

Surely with the servo they could have moved it over just a fraction more? i can see the spur chewing up the servo. I can see why u guys recommend the one piece motor mount.

Anyway here are the latest pics of her. I have ordered, onepeice motor mount, alum skids, mudflaps, plastic skid things, waiting to fing tekin setup for right price.

Just got parts in for my xxxxl build so i might work on that til i get the rest of my parts
 
Just ordered the Tekin RX8 and 1900kv motor from tower as i had a coupon. Trying to find a LiPo that will fit in the smaller battery tray, i usually use turnigy lipos but they haven't got one that fits. Looks like expensive LiPo is on the cards. No point in spending big on car/motor/esc/servos and having cheap lipos.... :(

Anyway just sitting back and waiting for parts to arrive. Time to clean my bench i think :)
 
Since i last posted my stuff from DE Racing came in.

Got a set of mudflaps, front and rear skid protectors, pretty cheap and a good way of protecting the skids from scratches from bottoming out. Mudflaps seemed like a good buy too.

The tekin combo i had on back orderr has just been shipped and the motor mount that was aslo on back order got shipped a few days ago. Should receive them within the next week.
I have been a bit slack and need to order a LiPo still.
 
Quick update, all parts have arrived. Just got the tekin combo litterally 5min ago. What nice peice of kit it is :) Will take picks tonight and post tonight
 
Looks really good so far, you are making me want one. The D8 spur is just as close to the servo, and I don't think it has ever made contact on mine. There are no marks on the servo.
