I last night am fed up with the pull start... I tossed the back plate on and went and bought the dog bone for my drill.. Now my question is do i need to keep it at a certain speed or anything i should look out for?

Thanks!

Make sure you set the clutch on the drill so it doesn't over torque the one way, you can trash them in a second as well as damage the engine if it is set too high.

yeah thannks robin.. after talking with frddy in the shout i have choose against using a roto..

My issue with the pull is it feels like loose when i pull at times.

I tried using the drill but even at low torque settings I still wore out two starting shafts and one OWB in less than a month. I swithced to the pull start and am starting to get slipping again but I was using the rotostart box on this OWB and shaft before I put the pull start on, which I think may have caused the wear this time. I have a spare OWB and starter shaft in my tool box. Once those are on with the pull starter I have a feeling I'll be good to go for a while. Not to mention, it sucked having to carry around the drill and keep the battery charged. It was just one more thing to deal with, and since I usually take my heli and savage when I go out somewhere it is a pain to have to load everything up, and make sure everything is charged as it is. Pull start FTW.

clean the OWB, Check the back plate for leaks, put back together and bash..you will be causing more problems with the roto start than its worth..i blew out at least 1 OWB per gallon of fule (sometimes two) when i used the roto start. I'm now on my third gallon using the pull start i changed to, just had to clean it a couple times. JMTC

aside from the problems mentioned & carrying around that big roto or drill & having a battery die & end your day,

you run the risk of over spinnin your mill.

if tuned rite & plug is good, your mill should start in a couple pulls.

with the roto or drill you runn the risk of continuing to spin when it wont fire instead of investigating why your mill didnt start in a couple pulls.

Glad your sorted Hyp, i had untold OWB probs with my F4.6 and the roto, i ended up doing the starting shaft mod but since i now only run pullstarts on my engines i havnt seen an OWB problem.

also, try preheating your mill.

I cant get a full tug on my engine before it starts after a preheat.

ya i never thought i would like a pullstart but after having the battery die in the rotostart a few times and ending my day I'm kinda liking it lol as long as i prime it first she starts within a couple pulls........
