OK I replaced my OWB and starting shaft and they seem to be working OK but now it slips when the motor is cold. It's kinda wierd it grabs enough to turn the motor over once, sometimes twice but rarely, each time I hit the button on the roto-start and then it just spins. I can still start it by just tapping the button a bunch of times kinda like when you use a pull start and once the motor is warmed up it does not do this anymore and it works as it should. If I take the glow plug completely out it works fine too even when cold but as soon as there is compression it slips again. I think it is just the nitro fuel making it slip and I checked both parts for damage and they still look brand new (no wear on the shaft) but I'm afraid over time this extra sliping will wear down another shaft. I'm already on my third one LOL but I think the first two wore out because of that OWB being bad. Is there a good way to clean these parts and keep them working good for longer? I wiped them all down and it work good for the first couple pulls with the starter but then started slipping again. I noticed there was grease in the OWB when I got it and now it seems as if the nitro fuel kind of washed it away does it need to be re-greased after I wipe it down?

I think Pre-heating the motor might help too but this is not easy to do when your out somewhere away from your house. Do you guys know if there are some kind of battery operated heat guns out there that are small and portable and don't get too hot that I could throw in my tool kit?

I'm assumeing you got an external owb.. its a good idea to preheat the mill first gets the owb to grip and less wear on the piston/sleeve as well. i clean mine with rubbing alcholhol and ive also put a small rubber o ring behinde the owb onto the shaft works as a seal helps alot.. don't grease it .....good luck hope this helps a bit .. happy bashn..

No, sorry I forgot to mention it's an XL with the k5.9. The OWB is inside the engine plate and the shaft has a hex on the outside of the plate.

As far as heat goes do you bring your 1:1 car /truck ? If so its exhaust will preheat your mill at the bash spot

LOL! Good idea I never thought of that. Is this a common issue with the OWB's? Is there really any good way to prevent this or is it something I'm just going to have to deal with?

Unfortunately, I live on the northern coast of cali where it's foggy 75% of the time LOL! 65-70 degrees outside is a nice day for me! But that's only in the hottest two months of the year when we actually get a little sun LOL!
