Can you tell me if the exhaust from my nitro fuelled HPI Savage SS would damage my car paintwork parked some 8 feet away?

I wouldn’t think so unless you splashed nitro fuel on it some how, I don’t think the exhaust would do anything. I do however know for a fact that nitro fuel straight out the bottle will strip paint off a dining room table (don’t even ask how I know that)

Many thanks for info. I'll still park it well away from car and remember to avoid refuelling it near highly polished furniture!!

I'm still experiencing large amounts of unburnt fuel when running my Savage SS. I have replaced the glow plug. Therefore I assume the problem is with the carburation settings. Would this be true?
Cheers

What temperature plug are you using? Have you tried setting the carb back to stock settings and re-tuning from there? I never messed with my low speed trim, I only tune from the high and low needle like hpi suggests. Don’t mess with the mid range needle. Also what brand fuel are you running? And what nitro oil percentage?

I've fitted a new no.5 glow plug. The fuel is 20% nitro from HPI Racing. As suggested, I'll take the carb. settings back to factory defaults and only vary the high speed needle.
Many thanks for suggestions.

Well you running good fuel. You can mess with the low speed but only adjust in small 1hour increments. And only adjust the high speed in 2 hour increments and if you go too far lean just back it off a little. Stock settings are flush for both needles. And if for any chance you wanna try the best fuel on the market get yourself some Byrons Race Gen 2 20%.
Let me know how you make out with the new adjustments.

Thanks again. If I set the high speed needle to the HPI factory setting i.e. 4.5 turns from fully fully closed, it does bring the screw flush with the top. However, if I set the low speed needle to the factory setting i.e. 3 turns from fully closed, the screw remains well inside the housing and requires another 8 turns to bring it flush! Is it me???
Cheers

Hmm. What engine are you running? And is it the stock carb? If it’s the S-25 you are right and I am wrong. I forgot you said you have an SS. The S-25 is flush high speed and 3 turns low speed

Many thanks again. Yes, the engine is a Nitro Star S-25 and it came with stock carb. which also has a separate Idle adjustment screw which seems to ensure that the engine doesn't stall even under heavy braking. I should emphasise that I've had the truck many years and I've only just got round to running it in!

I know alot of people like to use a fuel with castor oil as part of the oil package. I used to use O'Donnels and really liked it, left the interior of the engine shiny and clean. Glow plugs seemed to last longer and engines ran for normal amounts of time before needing work. O'Donnels used only synthetic oil in its fuel, and the race fuel if I remember right was around 8 or 9%. I have been running Torco RC fuel and it works just like the old O'Donnels used to. I run 30% in a variety of engines and it has been good. Crisp off the line all the way to full throttle. Oil package is 10% all synthetic oil. If you want more information do a search for Torco RC fuel. They have been making Top Fuel Dragster fuel for alot of years.

That’s a great motor. I have the F4.6 in my savage x. Great trucks! Your idle should be set to where the truck isn’t walking on you when idle. Usually that works out to your carb having about a 1mm gap when sitting in neutral position. So let me know how you make out. Remember set everything to stock, get your high speed needle where you like it, monitor your engine temps to keep around 250 degrees Fahrenheit which is a nice safe temp. If you stop seeing smoke when under throttle you most likely went too lean. I prefer to run my stuff slightly on the rich side. When under throttle you want a nice clean smoke that doesn’t linger.
This is probably the best video out there on tuning a nitro.https://youtu.be/WqjxDlK2uXA
And also every time you run your vehicle some small adjustments will need to be made because humidity, ambient air temps and elevation all effect the tune of the car.
Nitro takes a bit of learning and every engine like something different.
Keep me updated, I’m interested in how you make out here

Thanks I’ll look Torco up but I’ve always had a great experience with Byrons Race gen 2 25%. The engine on my Savage X is about 4 years old and still looks fantastic inside at about 80 hours of use and my plugs last forever. My brother runs VP fuels and I don’t like how it runs. The exhaust fumes From it sting your nostrils like crazy.
