Hello,

Please don't laugh but I am trying to bring my old Savage 25 with the 3-speed trans back to life. I had to buy a new motor. I ordered the HPI savage x 4.6 RTR motor couple of days ago and the motor arrived today but in my haste, I didn't think to check if the motor mount from the stock motor in the savage 25 will accept this new motor. I learned the new motor is too wide. Can anyone suggest a mount that will fit the stock body of the Savage 25 and will fit the new motor?

Thank you,

Gerry

I'm pretty sure all the nitro savages used the same engine mount. Like clear back to the 21 savage.

Savage 21: 86060
Savage 25: 86060
Savage SS 4.6: 86060
Savage X: 86060
Savage X SS: 86060
Savage XL (2009 manual I have, K5.9 on the side of the truck): 86060
Savage XL (2011 manual I have, K5.9 on the side of the truck): 86060

Those are all the manuals I got.

How is it not fitting for you? I have the X4.6 RTR savage. I pulled the engine and replaced it with an LRP28 and later LRP30. All in the same mount. I've used OS21RG, XTM 24.7, Dynamite Mach 26, Dynamite 427, SH28 black head, SH28 blue head, LRP28S3, LRP30S2, all in the same mount, different trucks, different mounts, but the same 86060 mount.

The new motor is too wide for the existing 86060 mount. Any suggestions?

Man... that is weird! Maybe you can just dremel back the inside edge of the mount where it's first contacting the crank case, probably don't need much as the crank case is round'ish in the area it's contacting.

Makes me want to dig in my drawer and see if I have the original X engine still... thought I sold it for parts to a guy though.

I was going to try that, you don't think it will cause any issues with engine torque if I shave down part of the mount?

I'm trying to remember if I ever had to do it... I have a foggy memory of doing just that... It's been a long time since I had to put a mount on one, if any would have had issues I would have expected the LRP30 to, but it's been a few years.

I think all you need to do is grind like a mm or so off just the inside corner where the mount is hitting the crank case on both sides of the mount. Basically taking the corner off. It should be fine as the bolts you use run down quite a ways into the mount, so the stress put on it should still be spread out fine.

Thanks my friend I'll give that a try.

Just make sure the engine is sitting in the cradle freely, as in, it's not putting pressure outward on the mount. The mount is just cast, so it's very brittle. If you try forcing it, it will crack. So, hit both edges with a dremel, test fit, grind a bit more if it doesn't just drop down in until it does.

Think I'm good ?

Does it just drop down in and sit flat on the motor mount flanges? If so, then yep, should be good to go. I can't tell, your photo's aren't low enough to show where the flange meets the mount.

I'm literally about to take my X off the shelf and see what I have in it... wondering if I had to do that on my mount. I know I ended up raising the engine 2mm with some spacers, but that was because the bell I wanted to run with the 47T spur was hitting the brake disks. Now that I dropped down the tire size, I could go back up on the bell and put the engine back down on the mount properly. It was down in the mount properly before but I wanted to try some larger tires on it and regeared for them, but never switched the bell back.

How's that. Sits flush and screws fit

Looks good to me. Didn't think you would have to take off much material for it to drop in. Sure is weird though. Makes me wonder of the chamfered the edges of the mount on later versions but didn't change the part number since it would work with all the engines.

Thanks again for the suggestion. We'll see how the reassembly goes tomorrow.

I am the same paige as Olds , I have a Savage 21 that I have upgraded to the 4.1 engine and then to the 4.6V2 which looks like what you have there and used the "Motor Mount" from the Original 21BB engine with no issues .

All the engines k4.6, f4.6, f4.1. k5.9, f3.5 and f5.9 use the same engine mount, have used allmost all of them so there must be something really wrong. I'm not sure if its your engine mount or someone was drunk when your engine block was casted. Did you grind down your engine or the mount?

I ground down the mount, seemed more logical then grinding down a 250.00 motor. If you look at the pictures there are some ridges on the bottom of the motor and they were what was stopping the motor from fitting. I only shaved less than a MM off the mount, It seems to fit nicely now.

I just finished putting the car back together. Just waiting on a battery from eBay for my Roto Start and I'm hoping I'm running again.

I was baffled also. I'm hopeful olds put me in the right direction.

I'm sorry you paid 250 for that engine. Way over LRP price range, reaching top notch nova engine prices. But you worked it out. Hope you have blast with it.
