My pull start slips all the time, but I still can get the engine started pretty easily. I don't know if it is the pull start or the one way bearing.

I have couple questions.

Where is the one way bearing?

I tried to turn this thing manual and because of the engine compression, I wasn't able to turn it all the way. Does that mean my one way bearing is fine?

If you could not turn it by the flywheel it is hydro locked with fuel or has mechanical damage. Not a one way issue

I could turn it with the flywheel but not with the that rod because my hand does not have that much power. I could turn the rod if I loosen the glow plug.

But my point is, if one way is slipping, will the rod slip if I turn it by hand?

It should slip one way and turn the motor over the other. You probably can't turn the motor over with your fingers alone. Take the pull start off and take the plate off under the pullstart and check the OWB and shaft for any damage. Sometimes the shaft has a little wear and the OWB can't grab anymore. Even the tiniest amount of wear to the shaft will cause this. Whlie your at it you can check your pull start too.

no the owb wont slip if you try turning it by hand cause your not putting enough presure on it to actually turn the engine over ... so its the bearing slipping when your pulling the pull start... just clean the owb with rubbing alcholhol ..its internal owb if its for that shaft... its inside behinde the back plate...if i read your problem right ..this is the solution ..good luck.

I think it is the one way bearing slipping because I can feel it slip every time for the last couple months. I ordered another pull start because I broke it yesterday. I will replace the one way bearing too because I don't want to replace only the pull start and after I install everything, I found out that it was the one way bearing and then I have to take everything apart again.

Also, while I have the back plate ok, should I spray the inner engine with nitro cleaner? or will I break it like that?

That’s a good idea to change the owb if your in there make sure to seal it back up so you don’t get an air leak, just take a paper towel and wipe up any oil/fuel you see and you will be good. The alcohol might mess up any o-rings inside not 100% on that but why risk it. Oh and make sure to use locktite on any metal to metal screws.
