Ok so I found this gem at a garage sale they had no idea who what when where it is has some traxxas stickers on it but has a metal chassis it has a .15 traxxas motor and old electronics...I can get the motor to run but the nut holding the flywheel keeps coming off while I have it running

yea the brake is on the outside of the cb and i just can't figure out why the nut keeps backing off..it does it quickly and haven't even ran it yet just bench testing it...its almost like there is supposed to be another bolt or something going into the shaft to lock it on but i can't see any threads in there.... and theres not enough room to put a nylon nut on the shaft swell

Traxxas Nitro Hawk?

Add a drop or 2 of locktite to that large nut and let it setup a couple days, and yes it does appear to be a Traxxas Nitro Hawk, someone has had alot of fun with a hacksaw on that poor chassis.....

Pretty sure that nut is supposed to be cranked down extra tight like a normal flywheel nut. I was looking for a parts explosion that showed the assembly of it, but traxxas has everything except that. lol

Yeah, the nut should look like this:

And the collet would go on that, then the flywheel. Completely backwards to every other one I've seen in the past 15 years.

Looking at that, I can't wrap my head around where the bearings go, or what keeps them from getting crushed from side load.

There's the flywheel, then this thing:

Then a collet... So, the cone on the bushing grabs the flywheel, so I'm guessing the other end of the bushing has a conical recess for the collet to bite on, but what do the bearings ride on or how do you tighten things down without crushing them?

Glad I didn't get into the hobby 20 years ago... or wish I did so I could appreciate how much easier things got.
