Hi Guy's - looking for a little advise - since it is the weekend in this part of the world I had chance to do some strip down work on my recently acquired X4.6 - unfortuneately the previous owner gave it to me because it didn't run well - but after today I can see it's mush worse than that and will need much more to get it back to former glory - I have tried to attach some pic's but failed so I have tried to explain each component. I was wondering if this type and number of failures are normal - or is there something more serios I sould be looking at?

Clutch shoes - look to be worn on outer edges and the mounting holes have elongated - clutch bell - the gear is worn as though it was poorly meshed - slipper clutch - cracked and contaminated. They all need replacing but I was looking for advise on going stock or modified - I know the spur was replaced with a steel replacement - current gearing is 15/49 - is this a good ratio for general use - and as I live in the worlds biggest sand box will it work on the dunes??

Any help would be appreciated

15/49 is definatley an all around setup. these replacement parts it needs are all rather cheap though. spur gear is like 4$ for plastic, Clutch is cheap as well...i would get an upgrade clutch, a lot of people like aluminum but i like my mugen seiki carbon shoes. they were cheap and they grab like woa

Slipper was to loose, need a hardend clutchbell to run a steel spur, and the plastic shoes are junk. So get a hardened clutchbell, new slipper pads, nova clutch shoes, mugen 1.0 springs. That should hook ya up nicely.

andy your not in bad shape there bud. only thing i see is your bud used a hardened steel clutch bell with that steel spur gear.

you need to use a hardened racing clutch bell with that metal spur gear caz (as shown in your pic) the steel on others just isnt hard enough.

1. Here is what a hardened racing looks like http://storefront.smfstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=31_68&products_id=611

2. might as well grab yourself a couple metal shielded clutch bell bearings
http://storefront.smfstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=53_54&products_id=1705

3. your clutch shoes look fine to me.

4. your slipper pad on the spur gear looks a bit worn but ok. might as well replace the pad while you have the spur gear off the truck http://storefront.smfstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=31_185&products_id=398

5. then get yourself a good 7mm socket & crank that slipper nut down good & tight all the way, then back of 1/8 turn as per your owners manual.

6. makes sure you understand how to properly mesh your spur gear to clutch bell & your off & runnin. rockout
