Had a Savage XL collecting dust in bits.
Rebuilt and tweaked (TKO ceramics front and rear, knife edged rod, porter liner and case) the K5.9 before it inevitably self destructs (absolutely rubbish motor) plus a JP4 hard anno’d pipe, and stuffed a F150 Supercab on top.

Looking for the Traxxas Bigfoot decal set but worried it may be too small. Reply if you know of a better set! It’s running truggy Badlands on dish rims (not ideal) as it’s the only other 23mm hex rims I had other than some yellow dish 40 series with Bow Ties (not keen).

Would ideally like to put my IMEX JUMBO CHEVRONS (which are quite rare I hear?) on some decent rims.

They’re unglued on 14mm Sayville wheels which are fugly.

I’d ideally like some nice RC4WD bead locks, but doubt there’s any to fit....

So looking for some IMEX 17mm Diamonds as middle ground.

I’ll be shaving the tyres right down with a grinder for more of a true monster look. Check this guy to see what I mean. No hate mail please. People seem to get really butthurt about shaving these otherwise unusable tyres!

Got Innovative RC LST shock conversion, running custom LST2 shocks. Underneath is full titanium gearing (had it lying about from another build), hardened shafts, some Chinese alloy upper arms probs RPM, RPM carriers, Orion 2500mah LiPo without regulator, Ace 2015’s on both throttle and steering. Throttle mod and brake upgrade. All crap I’ve had in boxes and drawers of about 6 haulers. Reverse box and servo are in. Most fixings swapped out for titanium as I had a stupid load of it lying about.
Had a tidy up and made this since I’ve been off work a few weeks poorly. Haven’t bashed in years, certainly not since I stopped racing (whenever the Losi 8ight 2.0EU wasn’t new. Damn thing only got one run out!).

Will probs thrash it and flog it. PM me if you like it.

Otherwise might keep it and do a Gravedigger shell if I can find one big enough...

Ps, as there’s always one person to notice....YES that is the dog from Friends in the background (there were two, one sitting, one standing. This is the sitting one.) NO it is not for sale hahaha

looking good love the body, i run those tires on all my trucks

For rims i ran both of those, the sayville ones are ugly like you said, but they discontinued the dimonds because they are not as tuff.

I started building my own jumbo 17mm rims as shown on the blue truck and purple savage

Love it man! Hope you find the decals! And I completely the agree that the k5.9 sucks! Ditched mine a long time ago for an o.s .30 and never looked back

The imex jumbo chevrons are real heavy,
So much so that I only ran a couple runs with mine a few years back,
They really do hold the truck back a lot and eat clutches,

For a more scale look I'd go with a set of tamiya clod buster tires on a set of Ofna monster pirate rims,
There very close in size to the jumbo chevrons,
The Ofna 17mm hex nylon wheels are so much stronger than the brittle imex plastic wheels,

Not mine,
but I had one just like it,
The jumbo Kong tires are way taller than the jumbo chevrons and didn't hold my truck back as bad as the jumbo chevrons

Some pics of my ek4 I used to have with Ofna monster pirate rims and think there rc4wd tires
I've sold some amount of trucks and regretted it?

Cheers Sparky, I didn’t know you could fit Clod tyres onto the Pirate rims. I’ve got a bunch of Clod builds and Bullheads in the loft. I might try the wheels up next to my build and see how they look.
Do you need to stretch them much? Also, IIRC you can’t get the Pirate/Dominator rims in chrome can you?

To be honest I wasn’t even going to run the Jumbo Chevrons. They’d be the “indoor shoes” for when it’s clean and on display.

The final, and by far most expensive option, would be to use RC4WD alloy Clod beadlocks with the 17mm lug adapter, and some form of fat Clod tyre. Their puller ones are cool, but for some mad reason with this build I want it to look as scale as possible (I know, I know, it’s not a solid axle, but I still wanna play. Maybe a 1:6 build using Kyosho axles could be next haha)

Love the trucks btw.

It would surprise you had how little of a stretch the clod tires are onto monster pirate rims,

I've a set of original kyosho usa1 tires on a set of new white 17mm hex mp rims,
the kyosho usa1 tire are the same size as clod tires just look a little more to scale imo with the grips running flat on top, right out to the edge of the tire

yes mp rims are/where available in chrome, white and flourscent yellow

I've had Kyosho mad forces right from the very first madforce Rcx kit up to the present kruiser nitro and brushless models,
There fun to run alright but will not take the abuse of an independent suspension truck like the savage etc.

That’s cool to hear. I instantly regretted selling my USA-1 when I was a teenager. Had a Nitro Crusher and a Whatever-it-was-before-mad-crusher but can’t find it.

Definitely going to go for the Kyosho tyres for look. I’d forgotten completely they fit Clod rims. Just need to find a set now. Seem quite hard to find in the UK.

Sparky thats strange that your past rig with the maxx chevs was under powered. I got the similar maxx claws and its an all out beast that will pizza the tires like mad when i jump or do cyclones, maybe to tall of a gearing?

Kwikuk The alloy clod wheels are nice but way to hefty, they will snap everything in sight. I just ended up useing them on a show truck, but even the delrin units are too heavy on one of my mad force's

I have both sets (black and alloy) for sale if anyone whats to try them

for only 100 bucks each set of x4, u can save your self over one bill.

tires are available for sale too

Love the truck and definitely agree with the jumbo Max's with the diamond alloy wheels. Kyosho usa-1 tires are good second choice if put foams in them because they are very soft . I'm a huge clod usa Hugh and rc collector love all the monster trucks.IMG_3920.PNGIMG_4938.JPGIMG_4984.JPG

Wow, that’s eerily similar to a Savage I had years ago.

I bought this hideous beast from someone who loved Chinese aluminium and the colour purple.

fullsizeoutput_2670.jpeg
fullsizeoutput_2674.jpeg

I binned most of the Chinesium parts, and de-anno’d the rest. Added loads of IRC bits and some custom bits I milled myself. Ended up making it into a basher but it was just too heavy.

fullsizeoutput_266a.jpeg

Split it up and then cobbled/mocked up an IRC low CG build with Imex Chevrons and a F650 she’ll (which was the only one you could get at the time that fit. I’m going back a good few years now).

Strange how things come full circle - I never got round to painting that F650 shell, so it sat and collected dust. In my recent effort to dust off a few of the toys, I dug this out and started to paint it in my old racing colours. Literally just this evening. Spooky timing!

(Not a Savage, but a few of the collection I could find photos for that were running my colours)

Nice job on the truck Looks so good without that cheep Chinese aluminum!! Really nice job!

Just a short update as it’s been a while...

Firstly, a big thanks to Northernnightmare who sold me two sets of RC4WD 2.6 beadlocks, a full set of RC4WD Mudslingers together with enough adaptors to fit just about any hex there is. Once again big thanks :)

I’ve bought and installed a set of M3 Proline Destroyers on the second set of rims. I’ve not had the chance to get them on the Savage yet, but here are some juicy pictures of the tyres all mounted up. Coke can is for scale!

First the Mudslingers on the billet rims. These are HUGE and by god they are HEAVY. Going to be keeping these in reserve for a Clodbuster (well Bullhead technically) build I’ve started. Just on the lookout for a good chassss

Second up are the Destroyers on the RC4WD Delrin rims. Quite a bit smaller than the Mudslingers, and a good deal lighter.

I’d have ideally preferred the Jconcept Firestorms, but there is literally nowhere in the UK with these in stick ;(

These are what I’ll be putting on the XL in my first post at the top. Really looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

There’s also a couple of comparison pictures to show the difference between the Mudslingers and the Destroyers.

Let me know what you guys think :)

Looking good Mark I already miss them lol

Are they going on the billet unit or the xl bigfoot ?

seems like lots of people have gone to facebook or something.

Well they’re sold now. No going back on the deal hahaha

The Mudslingers and billet rims are going on a 3D printed Clodbuster/Bullhead scratch-build.

The Destroyers on the Delrin rims are going on the XL Bigfoot replica. Then the IMEX Jumbo Chevrons are going on another set of RC4WD rims I’m yet to buy. They’ll be billet though and all polished up, possibly even nickel plated if I can find the time.

Order of projects though:

  • 6S Losi 8ight-T with freshly installed ARRMA BLX185 ESC, and ORIGINAL Steve Neu 1515/2Y Heli motor converted to ground use by milking some end caps - 100% (in testing phase)
  • Bigfoot Savage XL - 90% done
  • Traxxas Revo conversion back to nitro with an RB TM323 (used to be a slimmed down e-Revo conversion - 99% done
Does anyone ever find with RC you can never just have one project on the go?

Also which Facebook groups?

The fb page is called HPI Savage Central

I just joined up and there is a bunch of cool stuff on there, that said I hope this site get back to how it was few months back with mutiple posts a day, maybe in the summertime it will.... always liked forums over facebook but people seem to like it.
