Altering 3 speed transmission

Forgive my ignorance. Just entered the sport.
I just bought a 2nd hand savage xl 5.9.
I'm trying to alter the 2 to 3rd gear change. The manual isn't really clear.
I can find two screws in the viewing hole.
Which one am I supposed to tweak. The top or bottom screw.? What's the other screw for.?

To adjust the 1st to 2nd speed you have to open up the gearbox. You can't adjust from the outside.

The screws you need from the outside are for 3rd gear.
If you want to adjust that one you need the second one, first one is to screw the clutch to the shaft.
