Ok guys I take the automotive class in high school, second year class so I have it for 2 hours. We have been looking for a good drag car to build since I have been at the school...3 years. Anyways a teacher finally donated a 1985 Z28 Camaro, engine runs but trans is shot. For a drag car we are going to gut it and put a small block 400 in it. I am just looking for some ideas from people that have messed with the 400 SB's or in general what would be sweet to put on it. The motor will most likely come from a junkyard and we will go through with a rebuild, and lots of new parts if we get a list. Any opinions?

Either a blown/super charged 350, or a 383. Also for a strong reliable tranny in a drag car go with a power glide.

Shop teacher is set on a Small Block 400.....

No super chargers or blowers....probably going to just be a bore and stroke, nos, and some other things. Powerglide is on the list...we just have to get the funds :/

a 400 stroked and bored will make nice power. whats the budget? it you got some money go with AFR heads, and a nice comp cam. with the cubic inch you got and some nice componesnt and a good stall you should be able to dip into 11's NA i would think. what kinda rear end are you going with?

Well I just picked up a 400sb (donated). Gonna get a stoker kit for it possibly...budget is whatever funds we can gather which right now is $0. It is an all student project....even funds.

I've always been a fan of the 383 stroker. My buddy dropped one in an 86 monte carlo ss and that thing went from being slow to being pretty badass!

a 400 is one bad creature but huge combustion chambers loose the stock heads you can get away with a good set of 350 heads(big valve) but you will have to drill out the steam ports you can bore and stroke it to a 426 one nasty beast trust me

start around 1500. lol
