From the "better late than never" department:
Two years later, it's done.
Sort of.
I pulled the wide axles and replaced them with the 17mm conversion axles. I replaced the standard bigbore springs with hellfire reds. I finally got around to sorting out servo arm issue (used a...
Outside the TVPs... I'll have to give that a shot. Certainly can't grind down the motor itself for more clearance. Should have thought twice before going with a motor the size of a beer can.
Got the motor and mount from GCM a few days ago and finally had some time to mess with it yesterday. Ran into a snag though. Originally I couldn't get the pinion to mesh with the spur because the mount hit the servo. I shaved down the end of the mount as far as I could without ruining it, and...
Man, I really wish I'd asked GCM from the beginning. My mount is already done and they sent me a pic.
Another week for it to get here and I can finally take my savage for a spin.
I got my aluminum big bores used. I don't know if the springs are just well worn in or the weight of the DB17 conversion kit is just too much for them, but they seem pretty saggy. It seems like the truck will bottom out too easily even with two spacers on each shock. Are there longer /...
Well that was quick. I already got a response saying they'd be glad to make something that will fit for a reasonable price. I'm going to mail them the motor so they can position it correctly. Hopefully I'll actually have this thing running before it starts snowing.
At this point, I'd definitely consider a different motor. I just want to get this done. My main concern is that as big and heavy as this truck is ending up, I don't think the standard flux motor is going to be enough. I'm looking at the castle 1717, but that's just as big as the feigao and...
It's been almost 3 months since Kershaw said the motor mount would take 3 weeks. After half a dozen broken promises of "It'll ship next week", I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that he took my $40 and I'll never see a motor mount. I'm sick of seeing $1500 worth of truck sitting 80%...
180F is max safe temp. Once you get to 200ish, you demagnetize the motor and it's junk. 6900Kv is more than double what you should be running in a savage, that's why it's getting hot. What you really need is a 2000-3000Kv motor. For big heavy trucks, you want low KV and more battery cells to...
I definitely can't take credit for the shock thing. The only reason I even found out about it is because the used roller I bought already had it done, and I wanted to convert them back to full travel.
I bought my RCS and sway bars (along with some other stuff) from TCS. It's a great shop, and...
Like 88GTA said, the racing suspension conversion is probably the best single investment you can make for handling - sway bars wouldn't hurt either, and they're pretty cheap. You can limit your ride height for practically free by sticking "spacers" on the shock shafts inside the cylinder. A...
I think it looks great. I also think you may get a better response by posting you nitro revo somewhere other than the electric savage section. Here, for example: https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41
Thanks, but electric is manditory for this guy. Ended up getting a rustler roller with some good upgrades for $80 shipped. Added an axial 27t can, duratrax ESC, and traxxas RX/TX. Hopefully he has some fun with it.
My name's Chip. Chip Andre. Candre23 was my first email address (school issued) back in '94, and I've been using it on forums (previously BBSs) pretty much ever since.
