You're going to have to get a bit forceful with it. Try slightly twisting it back and forth while pulling straight out. It will come out, just use a little muscle. You don't have to remove the carb bolt, just loosen it. It won't hurt to remove it but it's uneccessary and won't make it any easier.

HPI Savage XL Engine replacement with LRP ZR .32

yes the spec 4 is direct fit into the xl. You will want a new hpi header gasket as suggested previously. The one that comes with the motor is too thin and fuel leaks out. Found that out the hard way. The motor is a beast though. Easy tuning, easy starting, Tons of power. Makes that 5.9 it had in...

Savages have an issue with their fuel tanks which causes them to run lean the last part of the tank do to its uneven design. A header tank solves the issue. The motor is direct fit and it's a beast

I haven't even put it on. It pull starts really nice. 2 pulls the 1st fire up of the day. Then 1 pull after that. It runs really good. The things pretty mean. I've been taking it to work. I do commercial construction so there's lots of dirt piles to eat up

    Slipper sorrow

The slipper clutch on my savage xl is being a pain. I've tried loctite, replaced the pad, tightened the nut down. it just keeps slipping. There's got to be a better setup. Any sort of upgrades or advice? Please it would be appreciated.

that's an exert from an older article reposted. theres another way also recommended by Ron Paris. In which he recommends idiling with the wheels off the ground as there's no load on the motor when its suspended off the ground. Google nitro break in bible. Him and others now suggest running the...

Ya the instructions seem kind of silly and against everything I've been told. I've kept it at around 200 for everytank since. 160 seems really low. I've got 1 more tank left before I start tuning it. Should have that tank ran tonight

I've learned I can not video tape and drive. Everything is going great. 2 more tanks and I can start tuning it. I'll get someone to video that process. She's starting to wake up. It's difficult not to just nail the throttle

So it was actually in the mid 170's when I brought it in from the run. Dropped to 167 by the time i got a pic. I had only leaned it an 1/8 turn from factory settings to get up over 200 but had to richen it more then I leaned it to get in the 170s. I reset the factory setting before having ever...

very strange. I've always been told to break a motor in around 200-220. I know I read these instructions a couple times. How did I miss this....160- 200 is perfect. I'll keep the rest of the tanks cooler. 160 just seems really cool. It should be fine, glow plug looks good. Not real sure how it's...

There's advantages and disadvantages with both pull starts and roto drive/tiger drive systems. It's all personal preference.

Tiger drive model S689 is a 90° roto start that will work with this motor and not interfere with my header tank. For those looking they also make 1 that works out the back of the truck much like hpis roto start. There's a cross reference chart on tiger drives homepage...
