Tips for building a backyard track...?

Good day all Savage owners. The weather is warm again, and it's time to break out the Savage(s) and bash, crash and all that crap. Anyway, I have a fairly good sized portion of wasted area behind my house. Lots of scrub brush, weeds and such, but it's a prime candidate for building an RC dirt...

    @#*!$$%@^#&* Spur Gear!!!!!!!

I like a lot of us have also had problems with melting spurs. I'd suggest that there are several reasons the spur can/will melt. 1.Incorrect mesh 2.Incorrect slipper adjustment 3.Worn clutch shoes or clutchbell (slipping) 4.Incorrect engine tuning 5.Broken parts (engine mount...

    installation problem

With a bench vice, open up the jaws until you can get the flywheel to sit on both sides and have the engine hanging free underneath... Then take a hammer and GENTLY tap the crankshaft until it pops off.. obviously you want to have your hand underneath the engine so it doesn't hit the floor...

    X-mas gifts

Let's just say I hope to beat the 300 yard plus long shots I'm getting now from my own combustion spud gun... It runs on Aqua Net hairspray.. but it gets a bit "gummy" after a few shots.. so Propane which burns, cleaner, hotter, and faster should get those potatoes a movin' !!! (evil laugh)

    new wheelie bar set up

Looks trick, but how well does it work? I like the idea of using an adjustable shock, but you need smaller wheels I'd think...

    rocket powered savage

Are these model rocket engines? or something more powerful? I mean if you need permission to fire these, I really want to see this rig before, during and after the flight/experiment...! Heck if you're using model rocket engines.. use the biggest baddest E sized engines, with the longest...

    New 4.1 Break In Problem

Any air leak will cause a lean condition, lean shows up as high revs, and high temps.. that's why you were seeing just that problem.. Good thing you checked and sealed it up.. You should also check and seal the carb neck and backplate. This seems to be a lot more common than it should be even...

    I HATE doing this

Definitely diffs. (at least on the first version Savs) have to disassemble the entire truck practically. That's why I figured that was the first place to upgrade to better parts.. Aluminum diff cups and 4 spider gears are a necessity, along with some good diff oil.. don't forget the lock tite...

    This guy is a NUTHEAD!!!

That was posted a while ago, I thought it was on here somewhere. There's a whole lot of other videos of this guy doing some messed up stuff.. The tires are stock I think, just air tight and inflated.. don't know how he did it, but there was some commentary on the website he had with all the rest...

cam type steering servo saver upgrade.....help!

yeah, sounds like you haven't tightened down the adjusting ring on the servo saver enough, meaning it will take very little pressure to open up the cam. You can test this by turning everything on, and then holding the front wheels on and turning the steering knob on your radio. If the servo...

    setting the gear mesh

Even with the manual... Here's how I do it. Loosen the 4 motor mount screws just enough so the whole motor and mount are loose enough to move freely. Take a piece of regular old printer paper and cut or tear a small 1/4 to a 1/2 inch strip about 3 or 4 inches long. Place the strip between...

your opinions of my planned upgrades welcome

One other thing I forgot Komodo... with all the extra weight, you're gonna need a very good clutch set up. I have a stock Sav.. with the HPI 25, and use a 3shoe carbon set up with standard clutch bell... My 4.6 had more problems slipping with the extra power, so I upgraded the flywheel to a...

your opinions of my planned upgrades welcome

Not sure exactly what advice you're looking for here, but you said you planned on upgrading everything with aluminum. I'd start with aluminum diff cups front and rear along with the 4 bevel gear sets if you don't already have them. The cups are necessary since the plastic stock cups can split...
