Thanks for the replies! I will have to see about the big bores when they get here. But I'm thinking that smaller shocks will help drop weight also, so we will see how it goes.
I am definitely going to get the Savage Suspension Conversion kit though! That will help out drastically with weight...
Agreed!
I ordered a set of RCSCREWZ for the XL and it was "supposed" to be a complete kit as advertised. When I got the kit, it had only a few screws that were compatible and the rest were no where near close to stock savage screws!
Stay away from RCscrewz! Also, a few of the screws DID strip...
My LHS has a few good tracks and the Slashes run the tracks. They are on top of everything and nothing there seems to keep up with them at the moment. I want to build a Savage Racer that will smoke all of them and I KNOW it can be done. I've been researching Savagesam's build to create something...
What do you guys think of these:

They weigh only 6.8oz. each and with the Super Heavy duty axles from the XL width would still be on par with 1/2" offset rims.
Thanx for the help!
I'm looking at these http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMJH5&P=0 but they don't look like 1/2" offset. I am also going with the Dirt Bonz. As soon as i get the truck setup the way I want it I will post some pix! I don't expect that will be soon though as there...
Thanks Bankrupter! I found them, and sorry for heisting this thread but I have one more ? for the Pro's..
What is the weight difference between the HPI Extended TVP's and these: http://www.platinumrcproducts.com/prc%20107.html
This is what I use to fill my shocks as well as lube other areas of the chassis! You can get them at any Farm Supply store for a couple bucks and you can get several for different wt oils for different applications! BTW awesome mod, REP for you..
Just an update, I put 40wt oil in the shocks and moved the top mounting position to the middle hole and have ran hard for 4 tanks now without any shafts breaking. So everything seems to be ok now!
At times the roto start will just be spinning without the engine turning over. I'm thinking it is caused by the one way bearing going bad, but not sure. What do you guys think? Also, do you think I will benefit from a pull start or no?
These seem to be breaking when I take hard turns in the yard. No jumping or anything special, just running and taking sharp turns. I notice also that it is always the back shafts that break. 3 broken so far with no hardcore abuse!
I don't know why but I keep breaking the stock shock shafts. They keep breaking right where they screw into the plastic end! Does anyone have a recommendation for a more hefty shaft that wont break as easily? Could it be my oil wt? I'm using 30wt.
Upon further inspection, I found that several of the chassis bolts were loose regardless of having been locktighted. Also, 2 of the bolts were missing, refer to pics and red circles for reference to which bolts:
Thanks to all for the help and wanted everyone to know that after tightening...
I have tightened all the bolts and have put thread lock on all of them. But when I hit the brakes the engine moves. Its a Savage X 4.6 btw. I'm pretty sure it is the servo saver pushing the throttle linkage and making the carb slider bottom out and move the engine but I'm not sure if this is...
I like this idea but I also like performance!
Does anyone know if the included cone for the Savage X that silences the exhaust hurts performance or not?
