What's up fellas? So I have a HPI Savage 25 with a f 4.6 motor in it and I got it finally broken in and I'm trying to tune it from flush and it is just lagging like a sumbitch. I messed with all the idle and the low and the high and it it just won't pick up any speed it sounds like it's bogging down, and every once in a while if it's not warmed up yet I'll hit the gas and it'll just flat die. It's always pretty hard to start even when I prime it good it seems like it floods every time but I still start it even though it's flooded I got gas shooting out of the carb. I go up a quarter turn at a time and then do a lap and then quarter-turn dual 1/4 turn and seems like there's no change at all when I turn the high speed needle out it seems like it loses power and when I turn the low-speed needle in is seems like it gets stuck at a really high RPM and it won't go down until I turn it down by hand I don't know I'm just messing with him to try to get it right but I've started everything from zero factory settings and I'm still having hell of a time getting any speed. Forget about popping a wheelie my Ford Expedition picks up faster than this thing. I didn't proofread this, I hope you guys can understand it and hopefully give me some tips I've watched every video on YouTube about tuning, forget to mild retardation, even Corky could get this

First replace glow plug especially if it's the one you broke engine in with , second make sure your air filter isn't oil saturated. Also ease off on the prime , a flooded engine dosen't help anything.
Hope this helps

-reset your needles, replace glow plug, stop overpriming lol

-tune the high speed needle first, do not continue with other needles until the high speed is good to go. And I'd probably not even touch the mid speed needle either.

-don't touch the idle until your low speed is good.

and do not tune an engine that isn't up to temp, get it there first before touching any needle.

I did a lot of research before breaking it in but I really wish I would have done more. I really didn't know about having to have the temps up and stuff like that. Like I remember when I started at the very first time it literally went up to full throttle and stay there for a whole tank it seems like. I didn't think it was right but all the needles wer at stock position. I just have a feeling I didn't do it right it took me about a month to break it in. I didn't have time to do it really so I did it when I could. I'd run a a full tank through without hitting the trigger and then I did another full tank without a week later and then I did the figure eights giving it a quarter 1/4 throttle for a tank and then next week I did I have throttle figure eights and then they did 3/4 throttle figure eights and then I did Full Throttle figure eights and actually took me about a month and a half. And I don't think I ever got it up to temperature. But I'm not sure. But I could definitely tell when he gets up to temperature cuz it'll go from being totally sluggish all of a sudden go get some pep but by no means does it haul ass. It's the F 4.6 engine and I feel like I wasted 230 bucks. Do you guys think I should throw it away and start over with a new engine?

just reset your needles, get a new standard glow plug like a #5 medium and start over with the tune

Don't turn your needles so quick, do a 1/4 turn and a 1/4 or 1/2 tank at a time. I would start the needles back at flush, make sure your glow plug is getting red hot and start over, too rich and it'll bog own and die every time you hit the throttle, too lean and you'll melt pistons

Also, don't touch you high side needle until you have the low side/idle set. I used to fiddle with all the needles at the same time as well and it doesn't get you anywhere, tuning these little carbs is very tedious

In my experience, engines aren't fully seated/broken in until you get 3/4 gallon or so through them. Some more, some less. Usually by the time you get to the 1 gallon mark, the tune starts to settle down and the engine becomes stable. I don't know if you damaged yours or not or how much fuel you've really put through it. Reading your comments, it seems you don't have that many tanks through it yet.

Also, by nature (again, for me), the stock HPI tank tends to be rich when full and a bit lean when below half. So from a full to empty tank, your tune will change some. Once broken in, many tune for decent performance with half a tank, then live with it being a bit rich when full and a bit lean when less than 1/2.

These are some decent tuning/break in instructions from a guy that used to design and race these engines:
