Might try to turn it into a electric machine! Open to all ideas or recommendations! Thanks in advance. (Just got new wheels finally but motor is now dead.)

My opinion is that a new :ercm: would be cheaper than a electric conversion. But I would lean more towards electric conversion if it was me I don't like the hassle of a :ercm:.

For what it's worth, LRP engines last many years if cared for...

Brushless if fun though. Just costs quite a bit to do the conversion properly. You also pretty much have to have BP diffs, if you don't, you will be fighting that constantly.

Is yours an X or 21 type chassis? If it's an X, it's easier I think because the flux front/rear complete sections are the same. I think the 25 on down had different bulks, arms, towers and I'm not sure if the bulks mate up to the X/flux type chassis plates.

You can get most of the parts to convert an X at rc4me.us:

I just got the center diff trans and so far, I really like it:

Required the input shaft from my flux though to use the standard hpi spur/slipper:

Yea lrp is great except I can’t find a rotostart or a pullstart and everything on their site with a .28-.32 is in backorder for the past 3-6 months and there are no hobby shops within a 200 mile radius and I’m forced to buy everything online. I don’t want to sell my truck I enjoy driving it.

Also I don’t want to buy a motor I can’t find parts for or that is going away soon. I also don’t want a weaker motor.

What's wrong with your pullstart? Rope break? Spring break? They are usually repairable in either case. Or do you have a roto and the gears are cooked?

Think I'd take the gamble and try another starter housing. The dynamite one is pretty similar:

THe starter shaft itself looks pretty close too. Without having one to try, I can't say what would work though. I have 3 big block LRP's, 2 in trucks and one in a drawer.

I had a savage 25 I converted to electric, I agree that it can be very expensive. I did my conversion over this past winter, and at the time parts were as scarce as chicken teeth. I used the flux motor mount, which is NOT compatible with the X, 21,25. The way the motor plate attaches to the flux is different, and in my case I needed to replace the TVP, motor plate mounts, motor plate, then the motor mounts (which needed modification to work with the Castle MMX. You will need to put in a hardened drive gear (mine wore out on the 3rd runs on 4s) and remove the second gear and replace it with an idler gear (to give you reverse).
The bulkheads, shock towers, arms, and plates are different but still compatible across the models but if you upgrade to the x bulk you will also need to upgrade the shaft in it. Then of course it’s the bp diffs, and drive shafts, doggbones and cups all need to be beefed up for flux power. I am really happy with my 25/flux, and would do the conversion again. Besides, how many flux owners get a chance to build a flux “kit” lol

HUH ???? this makes no sense because the esc is what gives you reverse....

If you take any nitro savage and spin The spur gear in the opposite direction the spur gear just spins and the car does not go in reverse. When you pull out the second gear and you put in the idler gear, And spin the spur gear in the opposite direction the car will then move backwards. Yes you are correct the ESC is what makes the motor turn in the opposite direction but after the motor you have a transmission that only drives the car one direction with the savage x (forward only) and the flux has an idler gear in it that moves the car forward and backwards. Sorry if my explanation isn’t to clear, I’ll try find something that explains it better

that is a much better explanation, making it single speed and forward only is what it needs

This is a good alternative to messing with gears. Also increases overall durability with a center diff to take away some of the shock of the brushless system. Really liking mine so far with a few bash sessions under my belt since the install.
