I have an HPI savage with a k4.6, recently the midrange needle has fallen out and is gone for good. I have looked far and wide for a replacement when thought I was in luck by finding one in Australia. Turns out their stock was off and they didn't have one either.

My question is what are my options now? I have found that the F4.9 carb will not fit my K4.9(according to this forum). Is my only option to either luckily find one used or get rid of this hardly broken in engine all together? Will HPI ever start making these parts again? I have emailed HPI and called their distributor in California, with no information gained from them.

Is the F4.9 worth purchasing so I can run? Or is HPI no longer the route to go?

Any advice is appreciated.

Sadly there is a shortage of not only engine parts but chassis parts also....
Possibly one of the members here may have a mid needle you can get off them, the other option is to go with an aftermarket engine and use that, LRP, SH, OS, Ofna and others do make a big block that will go right on the Savage platform and use your existing flywheel, clutch, bell etc.....

If you decide to go with a different engine follow the sealing directions found here>>>>>https://www.hpisavageforum.com/threads/nitro-engine-sealing.15150/

Thanks for the help! Can't believe I missed that on ebay. I almost spent that much in the needle plus shipping from Australia. I guess if it gets it running for now that's my only option. I will be sealing the engine for sure. Thanks again.

Might not want to go with the LRP... they aren't in business any longer. At least they aren't making engines anymore I don't think. I have 3 of them, 2 are in trucks, one in a drawer. :(

That said, I have a grey head HPI engine that came in my X when I got it. It ran like crap and I replaced it with an LRP28. Think I still have it somewhere if your really stuck. I don't know what engine it is as I never really ran HPI engines. I usually got my savage's as rollers and went with something else. The X is the only one I got that came with the factory engine still in it.

Sorry, don't have a better photo of it. That photo was more for the tank I put in it than anything.

We have had to make the tough decision for retire one of the Savage trucks to allow for a parts supply. My boys weren't super excited about that, but the abilty to pick all parts out of a well organized bin has made running our good truck all the more fun! I have started bidding on eBay for non running trucks as well. Maybe I'll open up a Savage supply house!
