Hey guys I need some help with my brakes. I recently shredded one of my red disc so I replaced them with the stainless version but I’m having trouble with them rubbing on the clutch bell. If I move the motor to get the proper mesh then the top of the disc rubs the smooth part of the clutch bell. When it touches the bell than the disc’s are pushed over a little and then they bind in the shoes. It almost seems like the motor needs to be raised just slightly but I don’t know if that is possible. Does anybody have a quick fix for this?

Sound like maybe you have odd gear size on the spur/bell, for example a small spure with small tooth clutch bell wont fit well

What is your main gear size, do you have a matched set? Also do you have the correct SS discs hub .

They do make a adjustable engine mount that goes forward anand back some, but they are all more or less the same height and go off the same specs position wise

My gear set is 17/47. I ended up removing the outside disc and replacing it with a couple of washers to fill the gap. It fixed it but it isn’t stopping the truck as well as I want. I’m either going to add another washer on each side or go back to the red brakes.

I have the stainless brake set on my Savage and it will endo if I apply too much brake suddenly..... what servo are you using for throttle/brake??? I am using one with just over 200 ozin on 6 volts and my rig has plenty of brakes.....

I’m using the old steering servo that it came with. Mine was going end over end with the red disks but I broke one so I thought the stainless might be a little tougher. I order a couple of sets of the red ones and once they get here I’m going to put it back to stock.

Also when I put the stainless ones on it was to tight, even with the break lever all the way loosened it would drag and make a nasty metal to metal sound.

HMMMMMM ya sure ya got it put together correctly?? mine are quiet and smooth, unless I jam them on then it will endo..... maybe posting a pic or 2 to see possibly what is happening will help ya get them working correctly...

No pic I already converted it to a single disc but I put it together just like the diagram showed. The two outer calipers have the sticky pads on them but that middle caliper is bare metal and I think that’s where the sound was coming from.

My oldest son got a Savage X 4.6 years ago, his had the red discs also, they lasted about 3 runs before a rock got lodged in them and they were destroyed, that is the main reason I went with the SS discs and also use an RPM center skid to keep crap out of the brakes....

Yea I should probably get a skid plate. Mine completely separated in two.

Did you replace the entire brake setup? Not just the disks? The two setups are completely different and I can't recall how compatible they are.

Yea I replaced the whole thing. You have too, the disks are completely different. I put it together just as the diagram showed. It was pretty simple and self explanatory but when it went together it was just tight, it wasnt locked up or anything it just rubbed and wasn’t free. I tried to remove one of the thin washers on each side to free up some space but there was too much slop in the disks once I did and they would get cockeyed on the hub and bind. I’m just going to go back to the red brakes because they worked awesome when they weren’t broke and just get a skid plate to protect them.

I had that issue with mine after the little pads wore down some and the hex hole in the disks wore. That was many many years ago when the pink ones first came out. I switched to the pink ones and broke one with a stick jammed up in there. Got a center skid and stuck with the pink ones ever since. They just work so well and are very predictable. The metal ones were too grabby for me even when they were new. Was more like a light switch.
