Hey I wanted to see what “must have upgrades” you guys recommend for the X4.6. Here is a list of the things I’ve already done.

Hitech 7955TG steering servo
Moved old steering servo to throttle/brake
Heavy duty servo spring
HD Aluminium servo horn
Bearing upgrade for steering
Hpi Aluminium Pipe
Aluminium Clutch Shoes
Robinson Racing Spur and Clutch Combo
Fuel Filter
Fuel primer bulb
Pull Start

Things I would like to upgrade:

Suspension- Need to find a way to keep this thing on 4 wheels better in turns.

Radio- Probably going to get the Spektrum DX5R because I want telemetry so I can monitor engine temp and battery voltage.

Engine- once I blow up the F4.6 of course. Probably leaning towards the LRP or a Nova

Bearings- Probably replace them with Boca Bearings

Let me know if you guys recommend anything else. I’m not looking for a bunch of bling upgrades but stuff that commonly fails. I want this thing to be super bulletproof because I like to play hard and I’m tired of breaking this thing every time I take it out.

Thanks

Can i know the from where you got the HD Aluminium servo horn & Bearing upgrade for steering. Can you provide me the link as well. Many thanks..:D

The servo horn I got off Amazon. Apex I believe. And the bearings I had in stock for fishing reels, I own a fishing reel repair business and I stock about 100 different size bearings so I just measured the bushing and matched the size with a bearing I had.

To be honest the Savage doesn't need that many upgrades to it, a few mods like you listed is about all it needs to be tough, as for the rolling over, you do need to slow down for turns in most cases after all it is a monster truck not a touring car :D

Yea I know it’s not a buggy but I was hoping there was something that would help a little. I took one of the plastic shims off the shocks above the springs and that helped a little bit it seems the springs are too short and they come off the plastic piece at the bottom of the shock. Maybe I can stretch the spring a little?

Is there here a way to make the truck wider?

You can use wheel wideners several companies make 17mm wheel wideners, but be aware that doing so will add stress to the bearings, I prefer to use offset wheels to do much the same thing and it saves the bearings from all the stress, RPM offers stable Maxx wheels in either 17 or 14 mm hex sizes to fit these trucks they are 1/2 inch wider when mounted to your rig but you will need 3.2 tires also the stock savage tires are rather high sidewall and soft so they do cause quite a bit of sidewall rollover, also you can lower the shocks a bit by putting spacers under the shock piston to lower the stance a bit.... fuel tubing or some plastic spacers is a popular way to do that..

Yea I noticed that about the tires. I’m going to look for those wheels and try to find some tires with a shorter sidewall.

Does adding another shock to each corner without a spring help with dampening at all or is it a waste of money?

I prefer to use a 3.8 wheel if at all possible, there used to be lots of choices for decent tires, sadly most are gone and difficult to find..... I am currently using 3.2 RPM stable maxx wheels in 17mm hex with a set of ProLine Mulchers I found a few years back on my Savage, they are much better than the stock wheels/tires on the truck, just keep in mind that 3.8 or 420 (losi) size wheels are the same, it can be confusing at times so keep that in mind when purchasing your next set....

As I said tires can be scarce in the 3.8 sizes but they are out there if you look....
My XTM MMT is using Redcat 3.8 wheels in 17mm hex with a set of Losi SuperBolt on tires I scored at the LHS and if I want to I can switch up because I am using 17mm hex on all my nitro rigs as of now....

the white wheels are the Redcat with Losi SuperBolt on's the black ones are RPM in 3.2 with Mulchers

You can also find wheels and tires by searching E Bay for HSP wheels/tires, I just got a set for my Mammoth ST I am working on, they are pretty nice with 17mm hexes and also have a short sidewall with mini pin treads....

Get the 12mm wheel extenders. Got mine off fleabay. Wayyyy better yhan before. Less roll overs. I also put 40wt shock oil. Handles so much better now. Way less walk of shames

Is this the one?

No. Those are 12mm to 14mm hex adapters and extensions.

Do you have the X or the XL? Do you know if you have the super HD dog bones or does it just have the standard ones? I ask because the XL comes with built in extensions, but the cups are larger for super HD bones. A bit costly to convert to that if you don't already have the larger bones.

Taking out spacers just leaves the spring to flop around at full extension. If your dead set on cornering, you need to shorten the shock internally by adding spacers under the shock piston inside the shock. They won't extend as far, but it will lower your COG. It won't be able to take big air as well, but it will corner better.

Sweep Racing has very low profile tires. I had a set of their terrain's on my truck for a while. Cornered like it was on rails, except the thin sidewall also means it does not absorb jumps well. Also, they don't hook up on grass/dirt very well. For me, they were useless. I spun a hex in one and threw them in a corner. Ended up with 3.8" trenchers which suits my driving better. Big air, skate parks, grass park driving.
