Hey guys. My Savage has been losing fuel pressure from the main fuel line going to the carb. It will run a few good powerful runs and pop wheelies then cut out and die. When I take the fuel line off the carb there is no fuel coming out of the line. It's like there has never been fuel run through it. I took the motor out and did a good seal job on it thinking there might be an air leak. I'm thinking now it could be the fuel tank not keeping pressurized because it's doing the same thing even after sealing the motor up. And I can close the fuel cap , start it back up and it will run then cut out again. It does this after each time I reclose the fuel cap. What are your thoughts ?

Check the stinger on your exhaust pipe it could be clogged.

I would be checking the seal on the fuel tank, remove it and plug the fuel outlet and install a long line on the pressure fitting, then submerge it in water while holding light pressure on the line with your mouth and look for bubbles in the water, if there are any you just have to look where they are coming from and you will find the leak if there is one

Well I did the pressure test but there didn't seem to be any bubbles from leakage. I checked the stinger too and it looks clear. It is weird that I can open the the fuel cap and close it again and there seems to be pressure then after a few runs it losses fuel and the line is empty. Maybe its popping up (loose) from the vibrations. I don't know. Now I damaged the pipe that I had on there and put a pipe on it that was on my XL. I wouldn't think that would not matter though, it fits well on the truck.

change the fuel lines. you might have a break somewhere so small you can't see it.

Yea I did that already. It didn't help. I guess I'll just try and find a new gas tank.

What about the exhaust header gasket at the back of the motor? They are like $5.00 for two, kinda sounds like once everything is warmed up & expands a little then you loose pressure? It could also be the fuel cap spring, I've heard of those going bad.

Looks like it might have been the gas tank/cap all along. I put an old savage 25 gas tank on and it seems to be doing good now. I'm going to change out the header gasket too because it looks like the one that's on there could use a change. Hopefully this takes care of it. Thanks for all your advice guys!
