Hi
I have two Savage X 4.6 (first model) with blown engines. Have been searching for new engines and found out that original engines is quite expensive and hard to get. Because of that i'm considering third party engines.
Are there any third party engines that is bolt on on this engine? I'm not looking for any faster engine or anything like that, just want a reliable and cheap replacement :)

I'm also considering converting one of the cars to eletric. Is this hard to do and is it worth it? Is it easier to just buy a eletric rc car?

Going brushless is definitely more costly than a new nitro engine. Motor, ESC, batteries and battery trays, transmission/ drivetrain upgrades. If you can though, it's well worth the time and money.

spendy ordeal converting to electric.
better off just buying a new electric if that is what you desire.
picco, Lrp, or novarossi is your best bet.better craftsmanship, longer lasting and cost a bit more than RTR engines, though

Just buy electric ...

I would go with a Flux xl if you can find one. I had a x 4.6 I converted to electric pretty costly but on 6s it's wild!

Different size spur, Pinon, esc, motor, batteries, battery boxes. The batteries, motor and escape is the biggest cost of it all.

I just put a lrp in my boy savage. Thought we had an rc boats boat anchor for the first tank, but its working real good now. Not fully broke in yet though.

yes on lrp, I also just put a z28 in, seems strong on tank 7. The first few tanks where a bitch. I had it new in box from 4 years ago. Paid $180 can. then. Now prices have gone way up...but recommend it.

Hey donpr.
Did you ever have trouble with it hot starting.
This lrp will boil the nitro if you try to start when hot. I'm running 20 percent. Gonna try a bottle of 25 next time to see if that makes a difference.

Merc man
I'm not sure if fuel is boiling but have issues when hot too. No fuel in line, maybe losing prime ?? Ive ordered a OFNA HYPER tank to try. How can you tell if nitro is boiling or not ? Cant find my temp gun, everything was stored in my shop for four years..

I have fitted a Thunder Tiger pro 28 in the savage i just built and it's a very reliable, easy to tune and plenty of power. The pullstart version will drop straight in and there cheap around £100

The LRP28 Spec 3 is a good fit for the savage-x. I ran one in mine for a while, but I upgraded to BP diffs and super HD outer bones/axles/drive cups. I run an LRP30 Spec2 in it now.

25% in the LRP's makes a big difference. Not sure why, but I found that they run on it so much better than 20% of the same brand/mix of fuel. I only run byrons 25% race blend now in my LRP's, trx 2.5R, OS21TM. Didn't feel like dealing with having 2 kinds of fuel around.

When they are hot like that, holding the throttle WOT and giving it a few quick pulls usually gets enough to it that it starts. Once fuel hits the carb while it's running, it cools it and runs fine. All engines that have aluminum carbs without an insulator do that, OS, XTM, dynamite, LRP... doesn't matter the brand.

I read about the Qfna hyper tank off one of your posts. Thanks for great idea... installed today..hope it helps with tuning.I had to tighten screw under cap to seal. Will try tomorrow

Some people frown on using something like the associated primer bulb too. I use that on all my nitros and really like it. It lets you push fuel to the carb by hand instead of spinning the engine. I run my lines so the bulb sits behind my rear tower. It also helps you out when you end up on your roof a ways away. Gives you more time to get there before it flames out.

I've been running chainsaws for almost since I was a young pup and every issue I've read about when it comes to tuning and maintenance and the variables that are involved are exactly the same...nitro is just more combustible...still a liquid with same physical characteristics as gas, oil or water it flows. The engine needs constant fuel flow and fuel pressure...with out pumps....chainsaws do not experience mud tank lean because a proper primer bulb is used..even lawn mowers use primer bulbs but there's a diffrence I've noticed...the gauge of the primer bulbs..some are thick and thinner creating diffrent more constant fuel line pressure...I believe that not only using a bulb but finding the right bulb to use for these small engines is key....

IT'S ALL ABOUT EVOLUTION!

I will have to try the 25 percent but will be a bit befor i get to hobby store. Its over an hour away.
When its hot the fuel in line goes back to tank after its turned offor stalls. I guess cause carb is so hot. I gotta fill the black tube that filter is on with fuel to get it to start. I hope when i get 25 percent it will help this problem.
I even tried converting the tank to bottom feed to carb and didnt help

So I had lack of prime to carb. sporadically, with ofna tank installed as well. Then I cut off a piece of fuel line at carb and plugged back in...wow lrp is rockin now. It must have been sucking air there.

Got to the hobby shop. Never had any 25 percent left but had 30 percent. Grabbed a gallon of that to try and what a difference. Ran two tanks continuous the shut off to put tje third in. Motor was plenty hot. And it fired write backup when it would bot fire back up on the 20 percent. And that motor is a whole new animal on 30. It has so much power. Its my sons truck. Would lime to try and govern it down a little if i could lol.

Yeah.. hobby shops around here have 20% or 30 %, 13% oil and 11% oil. I was thinking of mixing the two. Good or bad idea? Both Side Winder brand.

My local hobby shop told me to mix the 30 and 20 if i want 25%.
I don't see no harm in it.
