Here we go! I built my son a new f4.6 motor last spring, broke it in well and tuned it during the fall we ran with friends at a track and truck didn't run right, thinking carb issues and I spent a lot of time messing with it, well motor didn't run hot at all just wouldn't run right. damage DAMAGE DONE.! got home and found header gasket from header to block was split, new part! and still split allowing blow by. ruined compression on new motor, anyway a few tips before you run to check. Take time to check for oil leaks and causes, check gasket for tight seal between header and pipe , check gasket between header and block, make sure all screws in head and all over motor and backplate area are tight, also check carb nuts and screws for tightness, this is now our checklist before running!

Oh, I am teaching my son to work on his truck and how to be meticulous and why inspections are crucial as you go, and before you run ,I wasn't mad, his other goof was putting the pipe flush against the body which cause the header to not fit flush against the block, it was cockeyed allowing more blow by, Well he s learning!

a little blue loc-tite goes a long ways

#1 reason to keep your trucks fairly clean. its easier to see problems and not such a headache to work on when dirt encrusted.
my biggest pet peeve is seeing a nitro for sale with Fuel still in the tank and all filthy. tells me the truck is probably junk and the owner probably isnt much better. i may as well not bother looking any further as i will not be able to see possible issues through the muck.
a little pride goes a long ways

yes I agree, our trucks are cleaned and gone through after each run, I don't pay as much attention to his as I do mine, I just guess he s still learning and I have to still follow be hind him and double check.

loc-tite goes a very long way towards keeping problens like you had away.
HPI savage is a loc-tite baby just like the hardtail custom motorcycle i ride. best to keep the blue-goo handy at all times

Just a bit of info: all you need is a HOT soldering iron and red locktite will loosen up fine...
