Hey guys,

I’m pretty new to RC – I had a few cars when I was younger, but they were toys really, especially when compared to the Savage. A friend of mine turned me on to the trucks, he’s an RC enthusiast and has a bunch of RC vehicles that he messes around with. I really got on with the Savage that he has and am thinking about getting one of my own. I’ve always loved monster trucks but can’t afford a big one so this is the next best thing J

I’m on a bit of a budget though so have been looking into getting one second-hand. I’ve found a website with second hand Savages for sale - http://www.australia.for-sale.com/hpi-savage-xl and have checked out a few interesting options. I’m thinking of getting an XL for the size and general coolness of it.

I just had a few questions about things to look for when buying second hand RC trucks. Are there any common problems or issues I should be aware of when checking out potential purposes? What sort of price range should I be looking at for a second hand Savage XL?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, that's a very good question that I think we have all asked ourselves. Think of it as how bad was the truck bashed by the seller and how well was it taken care of after the bashing? There are many unknowns to the buyer! I would say not to pay over $200.00 for a used Savage unless it comes with a bunch of other items, parts, etc... For example I am newly back into the hobby(addiction) as well & went the same route as your going. I payed $160.00 & change for what was advertised as a working, everything there rig with extra A arms, body mounts, misc. parts, as well as XL TVP's and drive shafts to convert the X to XL. Received the truck & the engine was trashed. It required a new piston, Rod, & sleeve and the entire truck was absolutely filthy! So, it's truly buyer be ware and be prepared to do some wrenching and purchase parts for repairs. As usually listed on eBay " as with the nature of the hobby, returns are not excepted". eBay does offer some protection from miss listed items but always ask the seller question before you buy the RC. Used is just that...used. I hope you find what your looking for and at a fair price.

That $200 price you told him doesn't include shipping right? I got my XL for $250 shipped. I wasn't brand new out of box, but I'm pretty happy with what I got for the price I paid.

I just recently got this this one for a good price. I'm replacing the motor though.

Nice! That's what I'm putting in mine. Where did you get the motor for that price...which is a good price!
A guy on Facebook was selling it as he was converting to electric. I got all of his nitro parts. Spur gears, clutch, glitch buster, etc., etc. It's a spec 4.

Wow! Good deal. I know quit a few people going to electric. I'm the opposite. Going more toward nitro and gas. Still do electric but more the other now. Electric has kind of become boring to me. I like tinkering around with stuff though.
