So my mechanic suggested I get a small 1/4" battery powered impact to work on my RCs. I'm worried about stripping bolts/nuts or causing other general damage. They assured me that I would have no issue. Has anyone else used one? What are your thoughts on this?

Seems like an easy way to strip or break fasteners. I find I like to be able to feel how the fasteners fit. Besides, for how little work we usually do at a time it seems like overkill.

That being said, I'm sure if you are careful you can likely make it work for you just fine.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking @X. I was thinking about actually using a quarter inch ratchet with hex bits though as it does seem to be a pain twisting the hex bits repeatedly on some of these longer screws.

Seems like a good approach. Between ratchets and hand tools, that is the bulk of what I use.

Yeah, my mechanic seems supremely confident I won't do any damage, but I don't know enough about impacts let alone hand held battery operated impacts, so I just thought I'd ask.

I bought a battery powered screwdriver to put the 25 back together as I have both TVPs off. I'll just use it fmdo do most the work and do the final tightening by hand. Bought some T handle hexes too.

I have a Black & Decker LiPo powered 1/4 hex screwdriver and bought the long hex bits at A Main for 30 bux and I haven't found anything on my rc stuff it can't handle.....

Got all this from harbor freight for $28. They just opened a local store a few weeks ago. Full disclaimer my daughter's comb was a separate purchase lmao.

I've used a powered screw driver, bought it when I was building my HPI Baja SS kit as those screws are huge and a pain as well. Never really used it much on the smaller stuff and always started by hand tightening as to not strip the threads.

Yeah now that I have the T handle hexes, I'm not sure how much I'll use the battery powered screwdriver, but it was only $10.

Leverage is everything. ;)
Yeah that battery powered screwdriver couldn't break the hexes to my motor mount loose. Also I tried to get the cooling head off the 5.9 to check it out before I ran it. I couldn't get those bolts loose with the "L" hexes and didn't have a "cheater bar" that small lol

Well being a professional mechanic by trade I do have lots of tools, but that little B&D power screwdriver I bought seems to do very well with most fasteners.... T handles are great also for stubborn locktited stuff....
