Savage 25 tear down newbie question

I don't think they make a SHD set for the center shafts. HD with a chrome finish, but not SHD

Ok, that's what I was trying to ask, but didn't know enough to properly ask the question. Are the chrome ones more heavy duty than the stock ones?

I have the original Savage 25 dogbones and an HD rear center dogbone. All I can say about the stock part vs. the silver one is that they sound different when you drop them on a hard surface. Perhaps the silver one is harder somehow.

Thanks. I'll save the money and keep the ones I have e.

Those are my 2 center drive shafts. At a quick glance my dogbones look good too.

This bearing kit look complete?

Fast Eddy sells a nice bearing kit for the savage, good quality and price is good also. plus he is one of our vendors also, check them out, he ships fast also.....

Way too many options. Can you dumb it down a bit for me @Jam Racing 1 ? What "type" of bearing do I want? Ceramic, sealed, both, or neither?

I like to buy cheap bulk bearings for my wheels 8x16 and clutch bell 5x10 cause I burn them out often, and there easy to change. I buy premium ceramics for my diffs 8x16 and 10x16 because of the difficulty to change and the damage that can occur due to failure. IMO tranny bearings last forever. Just tore apart a 25 tranny with a million hours on it and all the bearings were still mint. Most trannys are pretty dirt/water tight. Wheels bearings however, take all the dirt and grime and suck it up. I keep a good stock of 8x16 for wheels and change them often

So would sealed bearings hold up better in the wheels? How do you know a bearing is bad other than when you check it it falls apart?

Hmm.. In 2 years never had to replace my wheel bearings.. What am I doing wrong??
Always drive in sand and mud.. High jumps. Big rocks, gravel, grass.. :)

I'm not qualified to answer that lol @Caretaker109 Although I can't seem to find these parts for the OFNA throttle mod.

Hahahaha, Maybe i have built a truly bulletproof savage. This is my 3rd in 12 year so i guess i knew what to do and how.

For the throttle mod you just need an aluminum servo horn, set of stoppers and sliders, rods (i used black bicycle spokes) and some springs.
some used Ofna but any brand will do.

That is an improvised rx box . Didn't want to drill in the tvp's. So i used zip ties..
I did drill for servomounts but ok..
But the midtank is gone now, rebuilt it again to a stock battery box and stock tank.
Didn't like the shape of the Team Durango tank.. Not much room next to it for the battery. I have an Eneloop AA humppack and had it tied to the front shocktower, and it was slightly damaged after a f*ucked up landing.
One plus for the Durango tank is that there is a clunk in it..

Also no more XL tvp's but the extended lcg FLM's. I just had to have a center skidplate and couldn't find one that would fit the XL tvp's.

Perhaps it's due to some of the salt on the roads here from winter misery, I'm not sure but I seem to replace wheel bearings more often than any others. Even the 25 I recently acquired and am currently rebuilding needed 5 out of the 8 replaced. They weren't totally seized or blown but really gritty when rolled. To the point that oiling them wouldn't smooth them out

That might be the cause. Salt isn't very good for bearings.. :)
Really, They don't make a skid for those Flm xl TVP's? Wonder why. And ya as much as I try to keep my truck parked for the winter I just can't help it sometimes. The first year I got it was in like January, broke it in and bashed it for 3 months jumping snow banks and crusty parking lots.

Nope, FLM doesn't offer an XL skidplate.
So that's why I went with the extended lcg set now..

Driving in winter can also cost you some A-arms. Cold makes the plastic brittle..
But replacing some bearings doesn't have to stand in the way of some fun, Right??

Oh yea, lots of broken parts winter bashing steering knuckles, shock caps, destroyed bodies. Taught me a lot about repairs though, and which parts to upgrade
