well, my plastic stockers are leaking, and i blew a cap off of one. time for aluminum shocks. what are the best shocks for the price. theres a lot of stuff on ebay, i just want some that actually work well for bashing and such.

good and cheap are never in the same sentence...

well the regular hpi alumin threaded shocks are actually more expensive as a rule and arent as good from what i've heard so $90.00 for the big bores is money well spent in my opinion!!

Were are they leaking from? if it's from the cap you can use teflon tape around the threads to help seal it, or i'd say get cen Nemesis/Genesis shocks or the hpi big bores(Either plastic or alum).

Yeah I noticed that the big bore are actually cheaper than the regular HPI aluminum set. If I hadn't got mine free I would have Big Bores already. I'm still planning on getting some anyway, if I don't get them for xmas that is, LOL.

I vote big bores as well, i was able to get 4 flux big bores on the bay for $30 shipped, which is a great deal (bidding not buy it now) They have exceeded my expectations and was a better solution for me then paying 90 for the Alum big bores, but ive been monitoring ebay lately to see if i can get another set around the same price for my other savage and haven't seen any come close to that price lately.

Alum big bores with alum Hellfire caps for me, seem to be working well so far, i have bent one shaft but that was from landing on one front wheel from quite a height so is expected, from the look of that particular landing i was expecting alot more damage.

I just got 4 intgy big bores for my savage flux and they're all leaking from the bottom for some reason. Shock fluid everywhere and the dirt is sticking to it like white on rice. Not sure what to do at the moment......

I found the solution to the leakage. I forgot to take out o-rings from the stock shocks and put them in the new ones. There are no more leaks.

The shocks are pretty good though

Yes it helps to transfer needed parts into your new shocks.... a bit of green slime will help them to not leak also

Green slime can take up alot of slack as far as sealing goes. My LST shocks leaked oil like they had holes in them. Green slime on the o-rings solved that.

I also have the Integy aluminum replacements for the HPI big bore shock bodies. They use the original rings, shaft, piston, etc. I'm of the belief that these shock bodies belong with the aluminum rear axle carriers in the category of "integy stuff that might actually be worth having."

Also +1 on green slime.

Guys I have a question. My savage came with the HPI aluminum big bores (alum body, gold shafts), and they leak from the bottom. I see this is very common, after searching. The problem is, the bottom cap seems to be a complete unit with the O-rings inside, and I am not seeing a way to disassembly it to change the O ring? Any advice? Thanks

Not sure about the aluminum big bores but, the stock plastic big bore unscrew both top and bottom. You should be able to locate the manual in this forum. I'll look for it as well.
