What is going on with my diffs?

Hello Relax1023. I've already completely torn down the diffs and compared to brand new parts. The diff cup is slightly worn, but even new diffs have some play in them. The internal gears are all nice and snug. I had a blown bearing on the diff cup side, and that has been replaced along with all the other bearings supporting the diffs and axles. The truck is back up and running at 100%.

Your not going to believe this. I have spent alot of $$$ in just diff oil.. using the recommended oil works.. After 5 different types of diff fluid.. I have found 1... that cures torque steer.. ( from o-full throttle side ways slide ) .. 100k fluid.. if while off road.. from a stand still.. ya floor it.. and it. tends to turn or slide out from the rear and ya have to correct the movement by adjusting your steering while vehicle is in motion to maintain a straight line.. Clean out rear diff well.. and replace with.. 100k diff fluid.. Its nearly like using clear maple syrup.. But.. The difference.. and control.. is unbelievable .. It launches straight and pulls hard.. The front diff is run 60k fluid.. If I had enough fluid left.. I would send it to free.. to try.. Its not expensive.. $6.59 At tower hobbies.. Same fluid Traxxus uses.. This heavy fluid gives the diff a posi effect but yet enough give to turn properly with would the solid axel effect..

Thanks for the info. I'm currently running 10k in the rear and 30k in the front, and it seems to handle pretty well without much of the torque steer you're talking about. If I run into problems I'll try going heavier with the diff oil.

cool... As you progress with different engines and clutch bells and spur gears.. you`ll really see the power of the engines. Learing the process of adjusting all the needles will make your engine come alive.. Then in time you`ll see your turn has got your engine really running well.. good temps .. smoke out exhaust.. and by nature of the diff.. 1 tire will get most of the power and you`ll see the slide out.. or torque steer I'm referring to..

I'm running a Mamba Monster 2 brushless system. I think I have all the power I'm going to get!

After some more fairly hard bashing the rear drive cups are still a bit wobbly but the fluid isn't leaking and everything still spins smoothly.

During the tear down and rebuild I mentioned earlier I also took the time to properly shim the front and rear diffs with the steel shims from McMaster, and when I ran the truck today I was surprised at how much quieter it is now. I didn't realize so much of the noise it was making came from the diff pinion and crown gears.

Mine does that, gets sideways on takeoff. Was thinking something was broke.

I'll keep experimenting. I'll be getting some heavier fluids soon to try in the center diff once it's installed, so I may try going to 60k front / 30k rear / 100k center.
