I have a Savage X 4.6 with a losi 454 in it. So my problem is... i will start it up... let ut warm up... then go... it starts going but want i hit half throttle or past half it will just scream and go like 10 miles an hour... it doent shift... does the first screw in the tranny do anthing because i messed with that on acsedent? Also i turned the second screw cc a bunch and it still doesnt shift... please help

i don't think its your gearbox, its your slipper clutch / spur gear, most likely needs new pad and / or tightening down

the 2 grub screws you fiddled with, grub screw on top is a screw shaft that needs to be tightened with loctite then it has a small locking grub screw on top of that you don't want to be undoing that

the 2nd is the 1st - 2nd gear adjuster which if you turn cw then it will change into 2nd gear later and vice versa

very true, so best to take engine out that way you can get to the spur gear to undo the middle nut, take off and check slipper pad on back, then you can take clutch bell off engine to check bearings and clutch shoes

if your unsure if clutch on engine or slipper pad on spur gear is worn out and needs replacing then post pics of them both, that way we can advise you further

the slipper nut was super lose abd destroyed the slipper pad... i replaced it but i still cant get past half throttle or it will die... and ut is very slow

so does the engine dies now

from your first post you made out like the engine would scream and yet the truck don't move very fast, about 10mph

of which if thats the problem

i would take engine out, check the clutch bell bearings and clutch shoes, then i would check the spur gear slipper pad, making sure there is no damage or needs replacing, if both are great then id put the spur gear and clutch bell back together making sure ive tightened down the centre nut of the spur gear so it don't slip
then fire up the engine and tune it

also make sure that the 2 grub screws in this diagram are ok as as they should be http://www.manualslib.com/manual/454156/Hpi-Racing-Savage-X.html?page=23#manual

Well shifting is dependent on a good tune and by what you are saying it would seem you are quite a ways out on yours....how far open is your high needle and have you touched the low end , also how is the idle on the truck.... many factors affect just how it will run.....

it is about flush on hsn and 3 1/2 out on low speed or so... it doent idle to good i cant seem to get it to idle... it will either move or it will stay in place then die after 15 sec or so... i know what ur going to say that the manual says 2 1/2 on both but i have watched vids and they say thats way to lean... i don't know anymore?

so you are 1 full turn richer than the manual suggests? I would say right there is your trouble or at least half of it.... try leaning the needles a bit and go S L O W L Y from there........ 1/12 a turn is all you need to make at a time, any more and you may just skip right over the setting that makes it run well.....

what would help is a brief video of your truck running, that would help us a lot, we could hear and get a better understanding of whats going on with your truck

it wouldnt let me take a vid... but heres what happend... the hsn was at 4 turns out(1 1/2 more than the manual says) and i held it by the roll bar and brought it too full throttle than idle a couple of times... then i checked the temp and it was 300 degrees so i turned it off... i might have a air leak idk

sorry youve lost me, we have gone from engine screaming yet only moving about 10mph which is a sign that something could be slipping, then you say you cant go past half throttle and it cuts out, now you can rev it while holding it to full throttle and back to idle and the temp is 300f

thats why i say its best you take a video of it running so we can pinpoint your problem

I cant take a video... ok so now it wont cut out when the tires are off the ground but when they get on the ground and I go it will cut out about half throttle and stall or die

Should i take it to my local hobby shop and let them tune it so i can at least get a base point

Just how old is this truck, did you buy it new or get it used from someone... to be honest I am thinking you have got bigger troubles than just a tuning issue.....

I bought it new about 9 months ago and somthing happend to 4.6 so i bought a losi 454 brand new... i broke in fine and then i went back and it started stalling when i go to full throttle

Idk it just stopped working then i tryed taking the carb off and the head of the screw broke so the carb was loose and prob not air tight..

I sealed the back plate and carb with ultra black and I'm going to seal the hsn and lsn on the 3-8 with green slime from TA just to see if i had a air leak and or to prevent air leaks :)
